The Chevrolet Jobmaster 261 6cyld was standard on 6000 series trucks with stock compression ratio of 7.8:1, 3 3/4" bore x 3 15/16" stroke developing 148 HP. The Thriftmaster 235 6 cyld was used on 3100, 3600, 3800, & 4000 series trucks. The Taskmaster 283 V8 was standard on 5000,7000, & 9000 series and optional on 6000 series and was also available with a 4 BL carb. The Trademaster 265 was optional on 3 & 4000 series. EGGE Machine Co. has all kinds of new internal parts for those old engines and probably some chrome Offy accessories too.

It took all of about 5 seconds to GOOGLE the number, and come up with these sites:

I wish I could find a good 261 near north central ND. I built the snowblower in the photo below 30 years ago, and the 261, which provides traction power to the unit finally died this winter. A piston broke. I have not pulled the head, yet, to see how much damage was done to the bore.

Third Party Image

An IH 304 truck engine sits low in the unit, and powers the blower, and a 261 Chevy mounted at the rear moves it.

Bob, a fellow near me cut up a running 62 chev 3/4 ton with a 261. Made a pickup trailer out of the rear half. I am sure the engine would be very cheap. the engine is near goodrich ND.
Call 701-884-2678,ask for mike.
