This is a manifold on a Farmall 544 row crop with a c200 4 cyl gas engine. As you can see it cracked just to the left of the exhaust pipe. It is actually cracked the whole way around and is in 2 peices if I remove it. The c200 has 3 different manifolds made with the only difference being where the exhaust comes up. The one matching mine is 400 bucks. The other with the exhaust port 2 inches right from the center of the manifold is 120 dollars! Can you get elbows or bent pipe so the exhaust can be used to come out through the hood in the same place? I can't punch a new hole in the hood as the gas tank is right above where the center of the manifold. Any thoughts or do I just need to bite the bullet and spend 400 bucks?

Jerry ,

I don't know where you are in Pa , but I'm just over the line in md . Toss that manifold in a box , hand it to the ups man and I'll fix it for you
with O/A cast iron .I won't take but a few minutes.

I'd take it off, clamp it down flat, grind a bevel around it and weld what I could, then I'd do the same to the backside after the other side cools. Since it's cracked all the way around, it isn't nearly as tricky as welding something that's only cracked 1/2 way 'round. You might need to get it milled flat again, but that's minor.

Yea i welded one once tryen to be cheap and it welded up nice i was happy TILL I STARTED THE ENGINE hear a beebee of weld had fallen down the inside down the exhaust port down the open exhaust valve down on top of the piston and when the engine fired it beat the hello out of the head and cracked the piston so the price of one new sleeve and piston one used head a valve job and my labor did not equal the price of the new manifold and now i do not care what the cost of the new manifold is in my book it is cheaper to by the new then fix and engine.

I'm with the others get it welded. Adds to the pitina and is serviceable, looks like a working machine.

Dunno Jerry,

That sure looks like a perfect canditate for a welding job to me even tho it is cast.

Betcha a professional welding shop could easily braze that manifold right back together for under $50.

Does any of the aftermarket people make one for that ?

I had one on a 4020 gas that was split in the middle like that. I think I welded the part I could get to on the tractor (been 10+ years not positive) with nickle rod then I pulled it off and did the rest. It did end up warping so I had to mill it flat again. The bolt holes needed oversized too but it has held up very well.

I have welded several manifolds with nickle rod and they seem to weld up good. Or you could braze it I did one on a chevy 454 I did all I could before removing it then finished the rest. You might even be able to take it off first and bolt it down to something flat to align it.
