Getting ready to pull a JD vacuum planter with a IH 1086. Will the hydraulics on the 1086 run the vacuum motor OK. Have been told it won"t work cause the oil will get hot.

thanks for the replies. This is a 1977 1086, one of the early ones. According to the manual it has the open hydraulic system which doesn't say anything about useing hydraulic motors. In the section about the Pressure Flow Control system which was optional or used on later tractors it talks about useing hyd. motors and haveing a special return line. Don't know yet what the orbit motor on the planter requires. hope to get a manual with the planter when we pick it up.

I do not think that it will do the job for you on the old system as the PFC system would you do not have the pump capacity with a 12 gal . pump and even putting in the 17 GPM pump would help .

Firts off what year is your 1086 ? if it is a later 1086 with the digtal dash and the colsed center hdy . yes if it is and old 1086 with the round tach no the later 1086's had one valve that was called a MOTOR valve made for this . Now off the top of my head i do not remember what handel it was on , need to get and owners manual . On the 88 series they have that also.

We use our 1086 running a hydraulic pump on our sprayer, also running the orbit motor for drag augers. Never had a problem.

How much oil does this planter need? If it's a big fan like an air seeder has, the 1086 probably isn't up to the task. If it's just an orbit motor you'll be fine.

Sorry I'm not familiar with a JD planter.

Lil-Farmer is about 95% right, the open center systems will work but not very good speed control,WE run PTO pumps from the early 70s on IH planters and had to on the JD vacuum with Hundred seris AC tractors. All air planters around us if not on a JD orCase-IH have pumps. You don't have to buy Deeres pump,Check JD-CIH-Agro-Kinse for Prices,The pumps are the same,Get a 1000RPM pump they are half the size and weigh half as much.Try your tractor on it now and You might be surprised, the 86 Seris might have Closed system Idon't really know. Good Luck

Depends on if the 1086 is open center hydraulics or closed center hydraulics.

If it is closed center, it will run it fine.

If it is open center, you will have to get the PTO mounted kit from J D. Bought one a couple years ago, ran about $750.00 if I remember corectly.
