I never owned a tractor, but looking to buy a used Ford 3000. Everything looked tight on it except for one small tran. fluid leak underneath. Owner stated it was from pto trans. front seal. Is this a major or minor problem? And how hard a repair is this? Thanks for all responses.

You will need to split the ole girl apart and put in a new seal. I'd replace the clutch assembly while you got it apart. That is if the clutch assembly has never been replaced before. The 3000 that I have has a two stage clutch which also controls the pto. Mine wore out at 4000 hours plus and required the spliting of the tractor for the repair. I had a pro help me with the splitting. You will be the proud owner of one of the best Ford ever built. Mine is a 1970 model. The engine is still fine and has yet to have any oil added between changes. It is always on the full mark. Good luck with your purchase.

Weep hole is there to let tranny fluid run out if seals leak. I have a Ford 3000. One of the best tractors ever made. I would not let a leaky seal stop me from buying if price is right. Probably cost under $400 to have it fixed if you don't want to do it.

IF I remember correctly, you have to drain the trans/hyd oil, then pull the pto shaft out the back. Next you have to pull the top cover to access the seal. It might could be done by pulling one of the side covers, but I doubt it.

I got some more info, the fluid in question was leaking from a weep hole underneath the tractor and the owner had a twig stuck in it that sent up a red flag to me. Looked to be dripping in idle mode.
