Spammers put random garbage into their messages to get past spam filters.

Just reading these messages is not harmful, as long as you do the following:

1. Do not open any attachment.

2. Set your email client so that it does not load any images. Spammers typically embed "invisible" GIF images in their messages. If you view the message, even in preview mode, the spammer will know that your email address is valid and you'll get spam forever.

3. Set your email client so it does not send return receipts.

4. You're best off not using the Outlook or Outlook Express email clients, as these are the ones commonly targeted by virus writers and spammers.

Jrry,

Easiest solution but not the cheapest- go buy a MAC. So far no serious viruses are written for or can even penetrate the Mac.
My spam is non-existent. It came set up that way.

I switched over from the Windows thing last year and bought the MAC for Dummies book to help me get adjusted.

Junk mail/spam filter evasion attempt. Most of the postings like that I get in Hotmail are sent to junkbox, a few get to inbox, mostly the latest P or N invite sites. Check your spam filters settings. RN

They have all that gibberish to get around the junk mail filters.

The filter programs do a search of the words in the email and process them to determine if it is junk mail or not. For some reason the gibberish actually tricks the filter program into thinking that it is not junk mail when in fact it is.

FWIW, Nathan

Put a checkmark in the box, then click on delete.
Works everytime. If you open it, you legitimize your email address to the sender. You also run a high risk of a cyber social disease as Allen pointed out

according to my brother:

the bad guys type out this gibberish, full of random phrases so the web searches will pick up the message

when some poor sucker finds this and opens it, the attachment can start doing bad things to your computer and pocketbook

my brother compared it to chumming

Jer, I'm with Allan on this. If I get email from someone I do not know or a server that I am not familar with I go directly to DELETE, do not pass go, do not collect $200.

There are many NEW viruses put out there everyday and you would have to update your virus definitions every hour to keep ahead of the game. Be safe hit Delete key.

Allan, we have a pretty good virus prevention system. These messages are not picked up as having a virus but I reliaze that could happen. Just wandering if I am the only one receiving them. Coming in daily. I order pretty often online and these look like they could be coming in as replys to orders, etc, but I will be careful. If you don't see me online for a while-well, you will know what happened. LOL

One word of advice, I do computer programming and security work....

The safest way to use email is thru hotmail, gmail, yahoo mail, any of the email hosts that you can read your email in your web browser.

Almost all email viruses are targetted at email clients like Outlook and the like.

I also like the free web based email so you don't have to change your email address if you go from one internet service provider to another...if anyone wants a gmail invite, let me know, I have 100 of them to use up, then gmail will send more. gmail is Google's free email service.
