Hey guys,
I don't know a lot about wiring, but how would I go about converting my 6volt 1944 Farmall H to a 12 volt. Thanks

Put in a new 6v battery,30.00.Tractors seem to get stuck with worn out batteries, skinny cables and those clamp on cable ends that always corrode with acid.Buy a small hydometer for a buck and check your battery to make sure it is fully charged.3 years is about average life for a battery,A 5 year old battery is a rare bird.I have used Farmall As Cs Hs and Ms in cold weather with 6 volt systems with out problems.I use my Ford 600 in cold weather, its 6 volt and starts fine.Save the money you will waste on 12v parts, you will need it for 2.60 per gallon gas.

Instead of putting in a alternator, you can also have your generator upgraded to 12 volt windings. Cost with voltage regulator is in $100.00 range at a auto electric shop.

There are other alternatives to the Delco 10si alternator, that fits easily under the hood of the Farmall H. And are easy to hookup using Bob wiring diagrams. Here is couple..HTH

1.Mitsubishi..#AIT23377 (most other Mitsubishi also)connector "R" is the same terminal #2 and "L" same as #1 on the Delco alternator

2.Hitachi..#14231

Bob M has graciously made wiring diagrams for this. If you go to the link I provided and then click on the index picture (1st one) it will list about 4 different ways depending on your current system. Then just pick the one you want.

The standard alterntor ued to do this is a Delco 10SI but there almost to big to put under the hood on an H you may need to find one off a Toyita pick up because they are a little smaller but still hook up like the 10SI

Change the generator, battery and coil to 12 volt.
If you have lites and want them to work you need to change them also.
There is a resistor you can add so you don't have to change the coil but I"ve never done it that way.
The 6 volt starter will be OK if you don't crank on it for a long period and get it hot.
