You used to see alot of old Army trucks in our northwest Iowa region as civilian trucks after the wars. Even the occasional Hummvee! I am looking for a new restoration project. I sould actually like to get a old Hummvee. Of course, when I wasn't looking for anything, I have actually seen them sell for as low a $5,000.00 I sure wish I would have got a few of them. Every now and then, you still see the powerwagons. They were really popular for farm trucks right next to the run a round Jeeps. Does anybody know of any bases around my Iowa area that would have some Army trucks and Hummvees for sale. Or how about any old PowerWagons in the Iowa Area? Thanks for all of your help in advance!!!

Just do a search on the internet. I saw one place that take a deuce and the 8 foot bed of a trailer and shortens the frame on the duece and removes the rear axle. Then they replace the duals on the remaining rear axle with over size tires for one heck of a pickup truck. They had one on their website for sale that had a fresh coat of fire engine red paint for 22,500. Not a bad deal. I don't know that I'd want a humvee, they're very uncomfortable and hard to see out of. I don't care much for that chevy diesel either.

If you buy a military vehicle intended for road use make sure you get a clear title when you make the purchase or you will never be able to license it ever. Most retired military vehicles go to schools, municipalities, fire departments, civil defense, or our native Americans first before they end up in the general public. They are either loaned to these entities or are sold to them. If loaned, the forest service keeps the title. If the the vehicle is purchased by the school, etc, then the title is probably held by the school, etc. The vehicles can be found, you just have to keep your eyes open. If you are from NW Iowa, It might be worth it to go to the Albert City Threshing Show the second weekend of August. They have a good display of WW2 and Korean vehicles. Good luck, Jim

Humvees are cut into four peices before being sold as a scrap. There a few that didn't go through that process - most by hook and crook. Given their cost and "newness" very few have been sold as scrap, the armed forces just keep rebuilding them as they wear out.

They do not meet civilian safty standards and emissions(?), bumper height, padded dash, airbags, etc.....

Fire Trucks !! in reply to Deeretrax, 03-27-2006 19:40:41
We have two 5 tons for fire trucks we got through Texas Forest Service on federal excess property program and built this one in 1998. It hauls 2000 gals. with a Hale 850 GPM pump on a Chrysler 318. Truck has the Continental diesel. Not fast but it can go where others can't. You can get parts from memphisequipment.com and avettruck.com (Antelope Supply). Memphis sells the trucks too.

I see them all the time down here in Missouri, but then Fort Wood is only about 40 miles from here. Theres a dealer of some sort down there that always seems to have 4 or 5 old army trucks on his lot.

Well, here a picture of my summer driver, a 1951 Dodge M37. The Hummve is an OK truck, but it lacks character, the rich kids and yuppies have them. Give me the older stuff, something I can work on, and enjoy. This ole girl is possibly going to be updated to a Cummins 4BTA engine, well, maybe. The army trucks are plentiful on ebay, and other places, you just have to look for them.

Try DOD surpluss sales. I have bought several vehicles from the military. for some reason there is never keys in these vehicles. This is a good case of buyers beware. Stan
