wHAT DID THE 1586's a'l come with for transmissions. I have looked at one with High/Low and 3 speeds and a T/A, today one had a High/Low and 4 speeds with T/A. WHat other options are out there and which is better. Are they all sync'd.

Never had one or sat in one but I thought the big guy had a V8 and a 3 speed. Also thought they changed the numbers around like 1568 for the V8 and 1566 for the 6cyl. Can't remember what they did with the 86 series though.

we had one it was a 3 speed with high low and TA (well part time ta)

but I never saw one with the 4speed.. I saw some of the Wester specials and never saw one with a 4speed either but I knew they were differnt than the original 1586's.. even the motor was a bit differnt we always wanted one... but ours was so much a piece of junk we just gave up on anymore IH's

All 1566-1586 were three speeds , now i have never been in one of them as we did not have but a few floaten around here . Now i have heard of guys swapen out the speed trans with a 14 as they did not like just three speeds and wanted a couple more gears to chose from it is not a hard swap but myself i would be a littel learie of the trans as from what i have seen when you twist the screw and get to many ponys up ft. the gears in the speed trans suffer as most of the 1466 and 86 that i have had apart that were turned up 1st 2nd and 3rd are hammered , even my buddys 1066 the gears were starten to round over from being turned up . So look at the rear end as they are larger then a 1486 , but i think someone put the 4 speed in .

OK so what could it be? in reply to rdk mo, 03-26-2006 15:23:24

????? Well then I wonder what is up with this one. Maybe I better run the serial # and see if it is an imposter. The shifter was left of the seat on the fender well. Had Rev-Nuet-low-high( beleive that was the order) then next lever in had 1-2-3-4. The TA was on the dash on the left side. I am really confused now. Does this set up sound familiar for another tractor? It is labeled as 1586 and looks like a 1586.
