Looking for a small tractor to take care of 10 acres of open pasture land. I've heard that the Ford 2000 is exactly the same tractor as the Farmtrac 435. Somewhere around 9 thousand dollars will buy the Farmtrac new. Any opinions?

I bought a Farm Trac 45 a couple of years ago and it has been a very nice tractor to bush hog around the farm. Sort of has always been the wife's tractor. This is a follow-on by Long of the Ford 3610 which was made in India as well. The manufacturer of this tractor also produced the 3610 for Ford and acquired the rights from Ford when they started selling off their tractor business. I was told it was not an exact copy but a lot of common parts. The model 45 comes with power steering which is nice. I think it is around a 42 hp tractor and handles a 6 ft. bush hog with no problem. Also, believe the engine runs at a higher RPM then the Ford engine and has a shorter stroke. Real good on fuel consumption and been a nice addition to our farm equipment here in Missouri which is used to keep the fields in shape and making hay.

I don't know about it being exactly the same tractor. I believe that Farmtrac is what has evolved from the old Long tractor business. The Farmtrac site has a link that will allow you to replace the engine in your Ford 3000 and 4000 series tractors with a new engine from them. They say that these engines are the same engines that came on these tractors originally and are now installed in the Farmtrac tractors. The tractors are made in India and seem to be pretty well designed. I looked at one the other day and was impressed. I do notice that the 435 is a mechanical steering model, so that might factor into your decision as well.

I was told by a dealer the the current Farmtrac 435 is built on original Ford equipment in India as was the Ford 2000(also produced in India originally).

I wouldn't doubt that at all. Sure looks like one of the older Fords.

I've decided that this is the machine I am going to purchase. Has 36 hp and putting it beside a Kobota L3400 there's just no comparison. Farmtrac wins hands down in my opinion. More of a true farm tractor than the smaller Kubota utility.

I just purchased a Farmtrac 435 and I can't say enough good things about it. Power, ease of use and modern features are all great. Bear in mind though I am replacing a Ford 9N so any modern tractor would seem great in comparison. I figured out that this tractor saved me about $4,000 over a comparably equipped "GREEN" tractor.
Right now I am searching for a front bumper/brush guard for it. If anyone knows of one I would appreciate the info. Our family business has a Ford 3000 gas tractor and side by side the Farmtrac is physically a touch smaller but way more power. Also the handy foot pedal that locks the differential is great for situations where one wheel loses traction. Much better than using differential braking to get out of wheel spinning problems. Another feature I like is the foot throttle to "power through" a momentary increaed load situation. Enough advertising, all in all I like the tractor and the price I paid for it
