Why after 27 years would my well turn rust colored. I sent sample to be tested but haven't got results yet. This has changed over last few months& it is really cloudy. Nothing has changed, could well be full of silt?
Thanks for comments!

Hello, one in drilled well is having the casing rust through or crack. another is a check valve not holding and the water surges back. another is barometric pressure can cause the water column to go up and down and stir things up .hope this helps some

If it"s not any of the things listed on the other posts, it may be time to have it bailed and/or purged. 27 years is a lot of water movement through the gravel, and silt can slowly migrate and build up...

are you sure its the water in the well and maybe not your water tank if tyhe blader in the tank goes bad you will get rusty water a good sign of the blader whent bad is if the pump cycles more often and doesnt run for a long time.

Has someone else in the area recently dug a new well? Or some other type of excavating? I had the same problem several years ago when a neighbor just up the road dug a new well, he finally had a well that supplied all the good water he could ever want, and my well, which previously could not be pumped dry, became nothing more than a hole full of sand and silt with a little bit of water that could not be used.

A good number of things may have happened. High rians in your area changeing the water table, a small quake in your area which would brake loose junk in/on the well caseing/pipes. Even a close lighting strike can do that to a well.
