Found a Case 1070 in an ad today at a local dealership. It did'nt say whether or not it was a powershift or not. I think it was a '78. Anyone have experience with this one or Case in general.

There was an issue some years ago about 70 series Case tractor ptos starting up by themselves, via the hydraulic control not being terribly reliable...although my 2470 did not have that problem, it certainly was a concern while hooked to the forage chopper. Always moved the header drive out of gear while unplugging it, even tho the pto was shut off.

I bought a 77 model 970 PS back in 1996, and mounted a new loader and grapple on it.
Like the others have said...just keep the fluids and filters changed, and they are probably the best "cost vs power ratio" tractors you can find.

The 70 series Case tractors were their first powershift model, which is the main trouble spot in them (like TA's in Internationals). But if they are properly maintained and not abused they are excellent tractors.

case 1070 powershift tractors are good workhorses if taken care of the one bad thing is the powershift can get quite costly to repair if it gos out.

We have had a lot of Case tractors with thousands and thousands of hard hours on them and only had three powershifts go out. Two just sheared the clutch pack bolts off and one actually was wore out. You can split the tractor easily and repair yourself for a fraction of the cost. 1070's are good tractors, you can do a lot with one. Not too big and not too small. They have lots of torque and start rather well in the cold. Change the hyd oil as recommended and let them warm up for a few minutes before lugging them or shifting under full load. Good tractors.

I have had two 1070's both had power shift. Never had trouble with either one. Always keep good hyd. oil and filters in them and don't shift the power shift under load until warmed up. 1070 overall is one of the best tractor models I ever had. Great lugging ability even at low RPM.
