My end disk is loose. I've tried to tighten them. But when i do the whole shaft turns, tried blocking it with a 2x4 holds disk but spindle still turns. Is there a trick to loosing & tightening the disk.

O.A., Like the others have said get a 3 or 4 ft pipe wrench on the back end of the shaft. Then try to tighten it down. In no luck, then remove the nut and determine the problem. You very well may have run out of usuable threads. After you get it back together hopefully you will have sufficient threads to double nut the front end then it shouldn't come loose.
Later,
John A.

I generally use a 3/4", 1100 ft-pound gun. That whips them up tight. IF not, then a 3/4" drive ratchet/bar, with about 6' of pipe, and my 200 + # jumping on that...
If the gang bolt is turning in the discs, I'm going to hazard a guess that you have the newer style discs on a 1-1/8" gang bolt. The newer blades have both a 1-1/8" hole, and at 45 degrees to that, a 1-1/4" hole for the larger shafts. To make a long story short, it doesn't take much to round off that bit of metal, and then the discs spin like hula-hoops. My dealer has looked high and low for for the old style discs with the one square hole, and just can't seem to get them....
So, if you can add some washers to yours, and rip them up tight with the impact, you might keep it tight for a while..... HTH.

Maybe you just ran out of threads and need to add some washers? Parts wear over the years.

take the nut completely off and clean the threads really good, put on anti-seize, if you have a 3/4 or one " impact it should go right on, if you don't have a impact, clean the threads, use antisize and have someone hit the other end with a sledge as you tighten. what disk is it? sometimes you can use a 36' pipe wrench to hold the axle
good luck
Ron

Be careful with the pipe wrench, always look for a place to land if the pipe wrench slipps or breakes. I broke a real nice 4 ft. Ridgid pipe wrench by jumping on it. Stan

I like the idea of a 36 foot pipe wrench. If that don't work, nothing will! LOL

Sorry, just couldn't resist! Don

I saw a 6' pipe wrench once. I couldn't but pic it up let alone use it.
