Last monday I sold 30 bales of Bahia 1800 lb.for thirty dollars each.Found out on Tuesday it could have sold for twenty $ more. That was at my farm at Katy ,Tx.I am out of hay at my other farm at Fredericksburg but did not want to get Bahia grass seed started here because it likes to take over. Some hay in F-burg area is fetching over $70,00.I have 50 acres of Tiftin 85 still standing in field with some frost damage and am thinking of harvesting it.Though it is not real high quality cattle now will eat what they can find.I have been told that there is a liquid supplement that can be added to bring up the feed value. Can any one comment on this.In F-burg area only 1.2 inches of rain since end of August.

Sammy, and All, ya'll up North, Not in the Draught area are seeing regular prices.
Here in Texas....
#1 horse quality Coastal hay in rolls + - $100/roll. That is if any body is sellin. Cleburne,TX 2weeks ago some coastal sold for 120/bale. Most hay that was going to be sold has allready been sold. There was NO fall crop made, period. Most sm sq bales are about $10 ea depending on supplies and availability.
Trucking over 300 miles is prohibitive duto fuel cost, and amt carried on aload. Not a pretty pic down here. Later,
John A.

4x4 Dry Rounds $30/bale 12% Protein mixed mostly grass
4x4 Silage Bales $45/bale 16% to 18% protein mixed mostly grass.

Not much dry hay to speak of. Even though it was a good year for making dry hay yields were down due to dry weather. Very little Alfalfa grown around here. Beef and Dairy producers are prefering silage bales. Not many horses to feed round here either. These prices do not include delivery.

I'm in Western NY state not far from the Canadian border. I don't sell the hay but these prices are coming from the guy that bales my bedding hay and also sells hay. There is so little dry hay this year that beef guys that normally buy dry hay are buying silage bales and driving the price up. This year from September to November was ideal conditions for growing grass, yields were double what they were in the early part of the growing season, and this is an ideal time to make silage bales.

I'm getting 3$ a bale canadian for small squares. Low protein but was put up dry and is delivered. It was a so-so year for hay and many people have been finding they bought mouldy hay.

People complain about my price but I haven't had a mouldy bale yet. Many horses which are barn kept have a near 0 tolerance for mold, especially now they are starting to build barns as tight as houses with no ventilation.
