One of my co-workers has been traveling to Cambridge on business, and said one of the popular songs in Britain was something about a "CJB", and was referring to a tractor. I did a Google search and came up empty handed. Any ideas?

JCB is over hear in North America with backhoes. I stopped at a British farm last year when I went to vist the boy and his family. That man had a bidirectional JCB tractor.

Okay, thanks. I did a search for JCB and found 'em. It's a new one for me, they must not have gotten this far west. Out here it's Deere and Kubota or else older equipment. Mostly just small farms here in the (sub)urban jungle surrounding Seattle and Tacoma.

Hey Fred,

Last summer, on my way home from Long Beach I saw a whole fleet of them working on the I-5 North of Seattle(around EverratI think). That is a miserable strech of highway, it seems like they have been working on it for the last 8 years.

They are up here in Canada also. Deere and Case are still more common.

Could be. What's a JCB, then?

Stands for Joe C. Bamford. He built backhoes using Fordson tractors back in the 50's. Went on to become more independent.
