powerstroke in trouble

In my 1997 f-350 powerstroke on the way home from a parts run i heard a loud bang. After I stopped, got out and picked up the front drive shaft and the 4x4 lever and threw them in the bed. When under the truck i noticed that when the yoke broke it dented the floor board under my feet. the shaft must have nocked the transfer case in low, and would not go into high. After my 30 mile drive at 25mph i got it to the mechanic. The transfercase was about junk. have you or do you know of this happening to any one. thanks. NO jabs at the blue oval please!

The transfer case has to be serviced at the same intervals as the diffs. Easy to ignore but I was cautioned about this by the tranmission shop that does the maintenance on my truck and Bronco. Was the service up to date?

Had my 95 Dodge Cummins blow the tranny apart when it was new with 599 miles on it. Parts strewn up & down the interstate. Seems they forgot a bearing retainer. But since then its been going strong.
We’ve been looking for a newer truck at work since we broke the frame on our old one. We do a lot of heavy towing with it. We took a 2001Ford diesel dually for a test drive a couple days ago. We were amazed at the lack of power. I've gotta believe there was something wrong with it but the dealer said that’s the way they are. My old dodge would leave that one in the dust for sure. Can there be that much difference?

From all I"ve read and heard about ford late model diesels ia there are two sizes. The 6.0 and the 7.3. The smaller one is a real problem engine and a dog as far as power. The 7.3 on the other hand is suppose to be a good engine.

I wonder you told you there are two sizes of diesel engines for the F-Series, they are full of crap, only the 6.0. They also are full of crap on changing the filters. The one on top is simple and the primary one is not that bad. I know I have a "05 and yes, I love the truck. This is why I never to believe the B.S. in these forums!

I have both the 6.0 and the 7.3 powerstrokes. Believe what you want, but from owning both I can tell you that the 6.0 has no shortage of power and I would take it over my old 7.3 anyday. Most people right off the bat want to give the 6.0 a bad rap but the truth of it is most of the trouble with the early 6.0's was due to software glitches and not the engine itself. My '06 F-350 6.0 has been fine with no trouble to date.

The best flat bed out there is the one that you build your self , When i went from a pickup to a one ton 4X4 i looked at all that was offered and everyone of them in my opinion was overpriced cheap junk SO i took a tape massure and did some massuren of the truck as far as widht of outside of frame rails left 4 inches from the back of the cab and massured to the end of the frame and also to the center of the axel then to the outside of the tires then addeda couple inches past each side of the tires went home set up the drafting table put down a sheet of drafting paper and made up a scale and drew out just what i wanted then started figuren out the list of steel and i wanted a wood deck so things did not slide around figured out just how to inclose all lites and wires made the gooseneck hitch as part of the bed with a chain box in the gooseneck well and went to building got a lot of comments on how nice it turned out even got stopped by a state cop one nite so he could look it over and asked just where he could get one like it . the down side of my bed building is that it was built like a tank heavy but it sure made that oneton ride nice and realy helped on bad roads would i change anything if i do it again yep the next time i'll use all LED lites instead of the sealed truck lites in the ten years that i had the other truck i had one lite go out no salt eaten wires and after ten years the paint was just starten to flake off .

Rolled my 2003 6 liter off the lot 80xxx miles ago. It has pulled everything I ever wanted to, including my 33' travel trailer across country. I agree there is not alot of room to work on anything in the engine compartment, but I have not had to spend much time there. ;-) No complains from me on the 6.0 liter. BTW I have the 6 speed manual. Dodge ruined me on the autos-

Did they tell you about the $60.00 air filter, the 2 hard to change fuel filters, the top of the engine oil filter that leaks, and last, but not least, gotta pull the RADIATOR to change the belt??? I'll take my 7.3 ANY day. Plus the injection problems they have.

The point of my reply to Mr. Bill was that the 6.0 has plenty of power. It had nothing to do with serviceability. The 7.3 is no gem either. I don"t really enjoy taking an oil bath while changing the oil filter not to mention that its leaked oil like the Exxon Valdez from day one. And not that the 6.0 would be any better but changing glow plugs is not much fun either. Both engines have thier good points and bad points. But the 6.0 has more power than the 7.3 and that was the point I was making.
