I am not preaching, but just wanted to tell all you people that still smoke. 16 years ago today I put a new pack in my pocket at 5:00AM, and carried it 3 days and didn't open it. I did have a very bad cold, I had smoked 33 years 27 of them 2 packs a day. You can quit you just have to tell your self you want to. I do not think about it any more.

Good for you guys who have quit! Stay strong!

My mother quit the day she was diagnosed with lung cancer. Too late.

My father had 3 heart attacks from the stress while she was dying. He quit when he got emphysema 15 years later. Too late.

Started smoking in 1952 and quit in 1994. Its not really hard to do if you really want to and have a good reason. Never missed them since. Three years ago I was having trouble breathing if I did any hard or heavy work. An hour of that and I couldn"t catch my breath. Come in from the cold and hack for an hour or more. Found out I have emphysema mid stage. Have to use three different inhalers each day. Next step is a nebulizer the oxygen then goodbye. There is no cure as of now. No dought I got it from smoking. Wish I had never started but had to be a smart a-- and do it. I always try to get friends to stop and anyone else that will listen . Sorry for the rant-Bill

Smoking is the one worst thing you can do to shorten your life. Second worst thing is over weight. Just heard the facts this week. BTW, I am in last stages of life with clogged artieries to heart and kidneys. YES, it is important.

One thing I've always hated and avoid like the plague is cigarette smoke. I know people enjoy it, and no problem with that, my mother is a die hard feign, when she lived in an Apt. , I seldom came by, the blue haze was a constant and the paint on the walls turned a tar brown tint from 15 years, here she has a smoking room, but it escapes out and I hate dealing with it.

My dad was damn lucky he quit in 1977, every once in awhile over the years later, while having a drink, but the doc told him somewhere around the time he had angioplasti( spelling ? ) no good for his heart and circulatory system, he is lucky to have had minimal trouble so far, had he not been seeing the doc, might not be here today.

I know what a grip it has on people, the second hand smoke is the worst, I would avoid relatives and friend homes because of it, the bars used to be the worst, no ventillation or high ceilings for the most part, some with multi floor open space or high ceilings were not so bad, but your clothes would reek after a 1/2 hour, not too mention the sinus problems it causes me.

Some people will smoke and live into their 90's and others don't fare so well, then you wonder what happens when a long time smoker up and quits finally, health deteriorates from the new prosperity of no more smoke, how many chemicals, like 400 ? I wonder what tobacco was like when the big companies were not around, naturally grown and dried, could not have been as bad, but who knows, hope anyone that is trying to quit makes it the extra mile, you and the people around you will benefit, me thinks !

( way O.T. here, still home sick today LOL - but getting better quick, got to get out of the house soon !

Me, clean since 1967, three packs a day to zero. Was probably the best and hardest thing I have ever done. You do not have to quit smoking two or three packs per interval, all you have to do is not smoke the next one. Not smoking that one, has saved me thousands of dollars not to mention the health and other costs. Well yes I am preaching (and blowing my horn) but this is all for smoking until at least next Sunday.
