Will someone correct me about the 2n i bought. Isn't the 6 volt system a negative ground system?

The only time that the 2N or any N for that matter requires a neg. ground is when it has been converted to 12 volt service. the Alternator requires neg. ground. Otherwise use the positive ground for the 6 volts.

Originally, the "N""s were (+) ground, and if it still has the original square-can ignition coil, the spark at the plugs will will about 30% more effective with the battery ground polarity (+), than if it is mistakenly cannected with (-) ground polarity.

If the unit is running well, and the generator is charging well, you may wish to keep it as-is, if you do decide to change the ground polarity, be sure to polarize the generator AFTER the polarity change, but BEFORE starting the engine after the polariy change.
