We are praying for those family members going through this tragedy at the mine, and a bunch of people have sure got egg on their face. Our daily paper out of Springfield, Mo., says they were alive. So sad, Harley

I don't know about mines or what is involved in the rescue. I wonder though why, if they wereable to drill holes into the mine where the miners were supposed to be, why they couldn't connect up a big air compressor and pump air down into the mine shaft, a couple of big diesel compressors could put a lot of air in there. Maybe one of the holes would have to have been a outlet. Or why couldn't they have lowered oxygen bottles, tubes packed with food and clothes, etc. down those same holes. Or a loud speaker directing the miners to the area where this stuff was? Can anyone answer these questions for me, as I said, I don't know what I am talking about, excepet for I saw on TV what looked like well drilling rigs putting 6" holes in the ground and then they said they had lowered a small robot and air monitoring instruments into the mine. So why not other things that may have directly helped the trapped men?

They were reported to be at the deepest part of the mine when they were found. At that depth it would be very hard to drill straight down to their location. Any variance on the drill angle could put the hole off track by several yards and therfore miss them. Another problem is that when the mine exploded, the miners didn't stay in their exact location. They are supposed to move to a safe area where they wait for the rescue teams.

Harley, Couldn't pass up the chance to agree with you. Realy sad but seems people just have to be "me first" and repeat what they hear. Hope they don't blame the rescurers for doing the rescue "by the book". I know, some would rush in, but that could get others killed.

Our paper also reports that they are alive. It makes me sick to think of the families who heard this news just to find out later that their loved ones are gone. With todays technology in communication there is no excuse for this to happen and if the media would have waited or confirmed the information instaed of rushing to the presses to try and make a buck then it wouldn"t have happened. The media is totally worthless and unaccountable. It is high time we hold them accountable for the bullcrap they report which usually makes bad situations alot worse. My prayers and sympathy go out to the families of this horrible ordeal and I hope the people who made the initial false report are severly punished!

I have a friend who is a night editor at a paper and I suspect they got it wrong too. The paper leaves for printing at 2 am or so, nothing they can do changes after that.

If that was the news at 2, thats what is printed.
