Hello,

Does anyone know if you have to pay sales tax on a used trailer in virgina? if so how much is it?

If it's a trailer to be titled for road use, you'll pay tax in your home state to get your title registered when you get tags. If not you pay in state of purchase or sign resale or exemption form. That's how it worked when I got my trailer in Va.

In IL you will pay a yearly sticker and sales tax. IL is not friendly

Wayne, I didn't remember so I looked at my trailer title. Under Sales Tax Paid it says "exempt". That's for a used 47000 lb. gross trailer, 8 wheels. The real bargain is the permanent plate.

Done a google search of taxes. Tax is $3.64 per $100.00 of value. No tax on those valued $1,000.00 or less.

Here in Iowa we pay 5% on used trailers. Just paid it on one.
