I have an old Wheel Horse Garden Tractor that was given to my son and I and we want to restore it. I can't find any numbers on it. It is about the size of a front engine riding mower, has everything but an engine. The transmission seems to work by turning the pulley. it is belt driven, has a cable-driven hitch that goes up and down. I am trying to figure out what engine I need to get this thing going. My buddy is an antique dealer and thinks it is from the 50's. The engine is mounted between your legs when you sit on it. Looks like a Horizontal Briggs, Tecumseh, or something like that. If anyone out there knows, please let me know. I want to make something out of this. It is a beautiful tractor and we want to restore it completely. Thanks.....Joe Pro

Its probably an old RJ-58 or 59, built in 1958/59 or a later version of it with a few differences built in 60/61. I got a RJ-58 in really good shape in my small Wheel Horse Collection. They are pretty neat old tractors compared to what others were building at the same time. They had small Kohlers on them(4 hp), but a 5 hp Lauson might have been offered on one of them(Not sure). Most any small engine will fit, but a 4 hp Kohler from the cast iron line would be the best bet(K91 is the model I believe). Good Luck with it

TP,

Thanks for getting back to me on that. I was wondering, Out of all of the horizontal crankshaft engines out there, The ones that I see all have the pull start on the right side and the crankshaft sticking out of the left side. Does the engine mount backwards or is there a special engine used just for them. The drive pulleys are on the right side. Let me know if you have any input on that. I appreciate it very much...Joe Pro

Bill, I have a Wheel Horse Charger 10 that is all original, in fact my dad bought it new. I am told this is a very rare tractor with the hydrostactic transmission. I have all the manuals. I would like to sell it but don't have a clue what it is worth. It has a mower deck with it.Do you have any idea what this tractor is worth? If you don't, can you feger me to someone who does?
Tnank You.

I've got no tractors to give away, but am interested in which line of Desmarais/Desmarets/DeMaret you come from in Canada - Northern France. Do you have any knowledge of your family line?
