So,

Yesterday afternoon I'm peeling some old paint off of the heat shields on my current project, when unexpectedly and certainly quite unannounced, this bulldog tries it's best to take off my right kneecap. Whooeee! That thing cuts like a razor!

However, I thought it somewhat rude, to say the least.

We get the Wranglers changed, get the blood all cleaned up and the wife wants me to go to town and have the knee sewed up by the saw-bones 'cause it is kinda nasty.

Of course, I promptly put an end to that silly talk and had her bandage the thing up since it wouldn't stop bleeding and I had old tractors to work on. 'Taint got the time, ya know? :>(

Didn't have any trouble whatsoever waking up this morning..... the knee talkin' to me again. But now, this mornin' I'm gimpin' around here like a grumpy old man.

Well, on second thought and come to think of it, I am a grumpy old man.

Ya'll have a good 'un, :>)

Every summer my 'farmer's tan' includes the oval on the belly- among the scars and spark burns- cuz all my T shirts have the characteristic grinder look!

Allan,
I did the same with a 4 inch and a flat wire wheel. It literally climbed into my pants and when inside it had its way with my leg. It ate a hole nearly to the bone and ground a big hole. I did the same, changed pants, neosporin all over it, and went back to work but it got so badly infected I was at the doc a few days later getting a shot and some real strong cream. It sucked. Thank the Lord it was south of my junk when it entered my clothes.....I still shudder to think what could have happened.
If I learned anything from it i respect a grinder way more now than I did before. A leather apron seems like a good idea, huh?

Yeah, I hear ya. I guess a guy has just got to check the color of his ol' bones every once in awhile. :>)

Wife is still harpin' 'bout "bone infection" and it bites a little more this mornin' than it did yesterday; still bleedin' too. But heck! So far, the leg is still functional and we gots old tractors to fix!

Hey! Don't ferget if you want to get it done in 2005, ya better be for gettin' 'er done! :>)

Allen, I would agree with those that say you should have medical personel look at your leg. It is sorta like doing tractor mantinence, taking care of a little prpblem keeps big problems in check. Don L C, have you looked into getting a prothesis? I have worn two of them all my life and have operated all kinds of tractors and other equipment. If you live in southwest Ohio there is a fine company in Dayton who I have dealt with all my life.

When I was a kid my father made an arbor that would hold a paper grinding disk or wire wheel etc, and mounted to an old wash machine motor. That was the most dangerous thing there aver was. While doing body work on my "68" buick skylark the thing got away from me while using the 10" hard paper grinding disk and I got a 3" scar on my arm to prove it, I was 16 at the time, about "1977".
Wont do that again!

Hi Ya Larry,

The "Be Careful" must be one of those "In the eye of the beholder" thingys.

I've been shot three times and had two real close misses by a couple of idiot kids, so a darned grinder or a little tractor tire doesn't seem like much to be "wary" of. :>)

When I was young and stupid(er), one of the past-times of us country fellas was to put a steel bolt in each electrode of an arc welder, grab a bolt in each hand, turn 'er on and see how much current ya could take before ya turned 'em loose.

We were easily bored back then. :>)

Be my luck that I'll probably get killed by a silly horse kickin' me in the head while I'm bent over 'er sometin'. :>)

I can't say I've heard of this one before, it sounds dangerous, here I am worried about gettin zapped by accident by the Miller NT 251 trail blazer on occasion when stick welding, so far so good.

However, our shotgun "wad fights" - (all shot removed) was really not a good idea, matter of fact, plain stupidity, even though we made very clear rules for safety reasons, I can't even imagine kids our age then doing things like this today by any means, how we never get caught is unbelievable, none of us were really stupid, or malicious, a little crazy sometimes. Without a doubt, not any way to handle firearms, we did not carry on with wad fights for long, ( was fun i hate to admit ) but we all smartened up and decided hunting was a much better hobby soon after and all of us practice the utmost firearm safety no matter what. Now you can't even leave your kids in the back yard without supervision in many neighborhoods, you never know who is around. Some really good things kids miss out on today, quite different now and was not that long ago.

Ain't that the truth!

Must be a generation thing 'er somethin'.

To this day I am in total awe of those ol' boys who went thru WWII and I could listen to 'em recount their memories for hours on end.

Listenin' to 'em tell how they didn't know if they were goin' to live thru the next 15 minutes or not, let alone the whole day.

Really got to admire those guys; they are a grizzly bunch and not much bothers 'em day to day in today's world.

Stepmom's dad is a WW II vet, believe a bomber pilot, he's well into his 80's, maybe late 80's very nice fellow, sometimes a little dry on conversation, but it's great when he does mention anything about the past, was taking him to pick up his boat at the marina and he mentioned how often they used to rebuild automobile engines back in the late 30's, and recall once he said not to do something ( forgot what that was )even if there are "bombers over San Fransisco ! " LOL. He rides horses everyday, like clockwork, sometimes he's a bit ornery, it's age, which gets us all, but he gets admiration from all of us. I've learned plenty about handling those 4 legged compost machines from him. He's very active, I hope we all live so long and enjoy life like he does. Have a great uncle from the same era, a Marine in WWII, people from those times are disappearing quickly, and like you say, you can learn a lot from them and certainly enjoy a cold one listening to them.

Allan, Sew a patch on the pants leg of those jeans and look like a real dirt farmer. Double patch them and then they will last longer while you are on your knees praying for a good crop. Works for me. Glad you didnt take your kneecap off with that brush. They pick up a lot of speed when they hit the leading edges.

Then you posted the picture of the rear wheel being held up by a pogo stick, now this injury. Well I for one still believe your a down home nice guy.

Oh Heck Yeah,

I consider myself a real nice guy, just not too darned bright. But, I play with the deck I was dealt and it has served me pretty well so far. :>)

As far as that axle deal goes, I, fer the life of me, can't figure out what all the hub-bub was about. It's a pretty small tractor and I've been wrestlin' those little guys since I was 10 years old. All of us do that grew up with 'em. They just are not all that difficult.

Never even gave it a thought; a heck of a lot safer than drivin' down the hiway! I ask you, where's it gonna fall? Down? I'm slow-witted, but not dumb enough to be "under" the silly thing. If it falls to the ground, I pick it up again; it's not that big of a deal.

Wife kinda went nuts on me tho. :>)

Thanks fer the kind words, I think you guys are super!

Yea, I know. Best friend could pick up anything too, until this spring when a sprinkler tire got him. A month off and a nylon pad in his lower regions by a good lookin blonde surgern fixed him up. Those hoists in the back of pickups are the best thing ever invented.
