Generator Disassembly

The neighbor is trying to convince me that a vintage Massey needs a generator to look proper. I disagree on grounds of functionality, (or disfunctionality), cause an alternator beats a generator hands down. But then there is the tachometer issue to deal with. So I began taking it apart (cause it don't work) and found a broken brush spring and some worn out bearings. My question is this: how do you remove the tach drive gear from the end of the shaft so that the outboard bearing can be renewed? Thanks in advance, Aaron

Aaron, I think you would do good to post this down on the Massey-Harris/Fergusson board. A fellow named Big Dean down there is the resident expert, he helps all comers. Sorry that is all I have to offer. Good Luck
