I have a sears custom 7, the engine seems to be getting tired. Is there a new replacement engine that can be put in that the clutch pedal would hook up too.

i dont know of another engine with the mountings for the clutch pedal . allthough a custom 6 or 8 engine will fit.those engines have a cast iron bore and can be rebuilt.the 10 and 12 hp hh100 and hh120 sears engines had the same clutch pedal mountings too .i rebuilt my custom 7 in 82 and used it 20 years more.i bored it.it still runs great but i got a woods zero turn i use mostly now. there is a tecumseh rep at the perr.com forum named tecumpman, you could direct your question there to him,he may know something else. lucas

My Sears has a brigs engine on it and it has a pulley for a belt. This belt runs back through to the transmission. The clutch is a idle wheel that runs on the belt to loosen or to tighten. The clutch is not connected to the motor.I changed my old motor out because it was beyound repair and I used a 5hp. Brigs that came off of a garden tiller.Hope this all helped to some degree. My Sears is a Custom 7 but I have yet to see another like it.I've seen some close to it but not exactly like it.Mine may be odd or something else.
