I'm sure this can be argued, but what was the best-selling tractor model ever? If I had to venture a guess, I'd say John Deere B or perhaps JD A. I suppose the Farmall M and H are up there too. Anyone know for sure?

When I was a kid, I thought every tractor was a Massey Ferguson 'cept for them weirdos with the blue ones. Hell, there wasn't a tractor painted orange or green in the whole county that I knew of. Only when I moved away did I realize it was a local thing. Course, I also looked at a narrow front tractor for about an hour before I realized it was supposed to be that way...

The highest numbers world wide are the Miranda tractor sales in India. It's well past the Fordsons etc by now.

Putting the past aside, It would be interesting to see what the best selling old tractor is now days, and how many still survive of each model.
I'm told farmalls were painted red and Allis's orange so the farmer wouldn't need to show the scrap man where to find them in the hedge row! LoL

OK, Fordson, but what model? Wasn't there more than one Fordson? We're looking for the best-selling model of all.

I hate to swell someones ego, but the cowman is right again. I read about it somewhere and the original Fordson was the best selling tractor ever, but there wasn't much competition in the small tractor market then. The Farmall H and JD B were close to each other. The H outsold the B by a few thousand.

Best all-time ever was the lowly Fordson with most of a million copies. Next came the Ford Ferguson with something over 700,000, Nothing else was even close, and sure not Deere, they never built their millionth tractor until well into the "new-generation" But I'm still farmall to the core and wear red undies to prove it! Farmall H 400,000; Farmall M something over 300,000 + another 400,000 farmall Regular and F series. Yeah! Farmall!!!!! !!!

Depending on whether you count all N-series Fords as one model or if you break them down into 9N, 2N and 8N. 8N alone was over 550,000. If you also include 9N and 2N the number approaches 1,000,000 from 1939 to 1952. There are "experts" who estimate up to 1/2 of them are still in service, although probably none of them are doing the volume of work they did when new.

I was thinking about the 8N, too. 4020 crossed my mind. Any ideas are appreciated.

In actual unit numbers, the 4020 wasn't among the leaders, but when it comes to horsepowers sold, it was right up there. As an example: 4020 at 94 hp comes up to vs. Ford 8N at 21 hp, it takes almost 4 1/2 8N's to equal 1 4020.

If you are talking single model with the most sales it is the 8n Ford.

I think the Farmall H sold around 400,000. M was more than likely about the same. Deere A and B were 300,000. Don't know how many Fords but if you went to the Ford page someone could tell you.

Just courious--
are you talking series of tractors or individual models and "Best" selling as in best for the money or "Best" as in most popular? Just a couple of thoughts.

You can look through the serial number pages at the left and figure it out for sure, but I think you'll find that it's the Ford 8N followed by the Farmall H.

I think you'll find it has to be the M.F.35 Diesel. It's still being produced to-day and has been around for at least 40 yrs.
