I am installing an electric brake controler in my truck. This is a used unit and I dont know which color wire goes where. I think the yellow wire goes to battery feed, the red wire to the trailer brakes and the black wire to trailer ground. When I looked in the truck it came out of the yellow wire was hooked to a hot lead.

Other John, If its a Tekonsha, Im pretty sure they ALL wire like I do mine::

Black to a hot battery feed via a 30 amp circuit breaker at the source.

Red is the sensor wire to the brake light controller/switch which gets hot when the regular brakes are applied.

White is frame ground.

Blue is what feeds the electric brakes.

HOWEVER if you have a Yellow but no Black, my guess is thats the hot feed as you suspected.

Heck if I know, do what Sammy suggested and Google the Vendor.
