Need to know what my options are on fixing the exhaust port on my K181 kohler out of my cub cadet 70 garden tractor. The threads are badly corroded. The pipe threads in but barely holds. Figured on finding another block but might fix this one if its possible. Was thinking about JB Weld. Thanks for your help guys! Mike

If the pipe thread in the block is loose cut a little off the muffler end so it will screw in deeper. They are taper threads. Earl In Illinois

Or you can try a new pipe nipple may need to cut it back to get good threads. Or have one threaded up and set the dies not as tight so the threads are bigger it may grab ahold of what you have then you can adapt on out to a muffler or chrome straight pipe.

I tried JB Weld on an 10 hp aluminum Tecumseh engine (twice) and it just burned out - evidently it can't handle that much heat.

Pipe threads are tapered. You should be able to run a tap a little bit deeper and clean it up some. A new muffler would probably help as well.

I'm sure you're aware that that is a standard pipe thread. If you get (perhaps rent from a tool rental or supply store) that size pipe tap, you very possibly may be able to chase the threads back to original or at least close enough for a good fix. It has worked for me.

I rented a thread tap and ran it in and cut the threads a little deeper in the port..can you do that..?? Or, you can drill and tap 2 holes to bolt a muffler or plate to the block with a gasket... Kohlers used both types of mufflers...threaded and bolted...
