OT low oil pressure

In my 10 year new Jeep with 4 cyl with 121k the oil pressure varies more than I would like. I know the gauge is not real accurate but it starts out around 70. As I drive it begins to drop all the way down to 25. The dealer tells me that 25 in a Jeep that age is a good number. It isn't the numbers but the big difference. What could cause such a dramatic change? I already ordered the sending unit so I can rule that out. Beyond that, any clues? Any suggestions? Thanks

here"s a trick I use on new purchases when oil pressure looks funny

temporarily plumb in a cheepo mechanical oil pressure gauge and see how close it tracks the dash gauge

I work on ship with EMD 170 liter engines.
The manual says that the rear camshaft oil pressure varies so much that they do not put a gauge to measure it because of mistaken concern.
We have a gauge there anyhow.
With every vehicle I think it has to do with where the gauge is and the internal design of the oil system.
I would get a manual and look at the acceptable limits and go from there.
Sounds like good advice from around here too.

The oil pressure must be a Jeep thing. I've got a '78 J10 with a 360 AMC and it does essentially the same thing. I run a 20W50 oil in it and get around 40psi on startup and at higher RPMs and then down around 10 at idle RPMs. When i got it I was used to the small block Chevys with their 60psi all the time oil pressure so it had me a bit worried too. I talked to several of the older guys at one of the local Jeep dealers and they all said the same thing, 'If you've got at least 8psi at an idle then that's about the best you can expect'. I've even tried shimming the cold oil relief to raise the pressure, thinking it might be bypassing and nothing matters. I've been driving it hard just like it is for nearly 12 years now and it's still going strong. Hopefully yours will do the same thing.

I've had several later model chevy's that did the same thing.with time and mileage, things wear, clearances grow.as long as it holds decent when warmed up,you got no problem..

The manual indicates normal pressure is from 20-65 psi. Again I have no idea how accurate the gauge is. I thought it may tell me that my pressure should be somewhere in between there, not run the range. I was concerned that the pressure starts out high and drops that far down. I run 10w-30 in the winter and might run heavier in the summer. We'll see how it runs out. Thanks for the comments.
