Went over to see an old man in the country looking for some heavy flatbar we needed to fabricate the landscape rake and hitch for our Cub. On the back of his property he has a large lot of old farm implements and misc. iron stuff. He's been in touch with a scrapper who will come in and cut everything up and allow him "30%". I figure he won't even end up with a hundred dollar bill before its over. I estimate there's at least 3 or 4 tons of stuff. I'm thinking about offering him a flat amount to remove everything as is and then maybe save what we could use and then sell the parts online. Most of the stuff isn't related to tractors but I did see some parts (maybe for a plow) that had Oliver embossed on them. Most of the stuff is drag type or horse/mule pulled--plows, hay rakes, spike tooth & disc harrows and a few other things with large gears & belt pulleys, and other things I don't recognize.

My question is whether or not I should go through the trouble of saving this stuff. I don't figure on making any money for all the labor but I'd at least like to get my money back for what I pay him. Are there any collectors out there that would be interested in old farm implements and who knows what else?? My son found a perfectly good corn sheller in the pile--destined for the scrapyard and now saved..

Definately save it, set it out by the road with a for sale sign, or take it to a consignment auction. You will be surprised at what some people will consider "yard art".

Yeah - try to save some of it! I'm always finding stuff to tear apart or modify to use on a 3 point. The sheller makes it worth it right away! Just missed saving and old IH 2 row corn picker from the scrapper - it was in perfect condition and shedded - the guy just wanted to clean up and called a scrapper! Shame. Who knows what else I missed!

Galen,

I think we'll go over to his place this weekend and see what we can work out. BTW, I didn't mean to "shout" in my subject line--didn't notice allcaps was on...
