Eventhough It was a cold spring and a hot dry summer I have the best quality feed I've ever made. Corn yielded 25 ton/acre compared to my average of 18 tons. Hay was lean 5 cuttings yielded less then 5 tons per acre, I usually get better then 6 tons/acre. Over allIt will be a good year I stand to profit about $125/acre this year. Which will be my best year since I started farming in 2000.

We had a cold wet spring, it abruptly turned hot and dry, and finished off with a nice long fall. Peas and green beans were mostly a crop failure. Eggplants and peppers only had a first flush of fruit. Tomatoes and winter squash did all right. The saving grace was the long, warm fall. After all that, it turned out that we had a good year.

Hopefully we'll break even with 40 bu soys @$6.15 Canadian. As usual, hay (small squares)will save our bacon ,as so few guys here want to bother with the small ones anymore. This old clay here just won't produce corn well (thank heavens),some real horror stories out there with corn. Strong movement here to put a countervailing duty on U.S. corn coming into Canada ---- hope it doesn't get nasty between our countries.

Just heard today on the radio, the western Canadian areas are getting more hog packing plants, will soon raise their own hogs, not ship weaners down here to the 'States. _That_ will change a lot of things, nothern states like MN here are putting up record number of big hog barns, getting piglets from Canada. If this comes to be, empty hog barns here, & corn being shipped up there.....

You folks are getting good prices; Corn has risen to $1.44, beans are up to $5. 16 USA - was lower at harvest time. Really aweful to be a big export area, farthest from ports, and the problems with Port New Orleans..... .

Thanksgiving weekend I was up in southwest Iowa and dad said he got another 200 bu. corn crop this year, price at $1.58. He has storage so he holds it over. Beans were 62 and a little over $6.00. Harley
