With my grandfathers recent passing, my brother and I received his 1967 F250 Ranger Camper Special. This is a pretty rare truck, and it was my grandfathers first brand new pickup, which he had custom ordered. For a Christmas present to my grandmother, uncles and aunts, we decided to completly restore it. There is only one problem, we can't find the keys. We have searched everywhere for them and still no luck. So, we ordered a new, origional switch and key for it.The problem is, it won't be in for a while. The truck has been sitting for about 15 years. The motor is loose. Since we are in a pinch for time, we are looking for a way to bypass the starter button for now so we can get the motor up to running condition. If anybody has any ideas to do this, any suggestion is greatly appriciated. Thanks and God Bless

I had a 1967 F250 for a short time a few years ago (until some meth-head ran a red light and totalled it).

While I had it I got involved with a very helpful group of people who are also '67 Ford truck owners. You can contact them at the link below. The owner of that website is Thom Benedetto and he's a great guy.

Too late now, but you could have taken a door lock to a lock smith, and have a key made. Old GM cars used two different keys. Ford used one for the door and ign. You can jumper directly to the coil from the pos. batt conn. If I am not mistaken there is a plus on the coil put the hot there. The pos batt connection should go to a selonid. again jumper batt pos to one of the small wires on the solenoid. This should energise the starter.MAKE SURE TRUCK IS OUT OF GEAR.IF IT SHOULD HAPPEN TO START IT WILL TAKE OFF. Hope this helpes If I am wrong I am sure someone will correct me. Stan

...is to run a jumper from the POS battery cable to the POS terminal on the coil(should be marked). Then take a pair of channel lock pliers and jump the two terminals on the starter solenoid on the fenderwell. Caution! Sparks may fly but it should turn the engine over. If you want to just turn it over then leave the jumper off. If it starts(with jumper) then remove to turn it off. May want to take the fuel line loose from carb and run a rubber hose to a can to let the crud in tank get out before you try to start it. Clean up any gas spills before attempting to "jump"!

Have you tried to have a new key made. I have heard the with the VIN a dealer can look up the needed info and cut a new key with out a original. Might need to go to a larger dealer to get this done. Will need to deal with the parts department and find someone who is willing to take the time to do the looking.

Just a Thought

Old,
Please be careful with you instructions. You really mean run a wire from battery to solenoid - so any sparking will be well away from the battery thus avoiding or reducing any explosion risk.
Some of our less experienced readers might have a serious incident if they just follow your post verbatim.
Battery terminal of solenoid to solenoid energiser terminal would need much less wire and be safer?
Regards, RAB

Thats an easy one. First you hot wire it and then you use a wire from the solinoid to the battery to turn the engine over.

1st, run a wire from the + side of the coil to the + battery terminal, that'll give you 12v to the coil. 2nd, jump from the battery side of the starter solinoid to the small terminal on the solinoid, there are 2 so you'll have to use the one that engages the starter to turn it over. With it turning and the coil hooked to the battery, it should run with fuel. Good luck, John

Two things, the switch will not come out of the dash without the key and any locksmith will cut a key for 20.00 plus a service call. Also a dealer can cut a key from the VIN if their books go back that far.
