Just picked up my International 240 SN#2556-J
It has a live PTO, Power steering, w/Fast-Hitch.
I still can't find if its 6 or 12 volts and what is the rated HP. Would like to learn all I can about this before I start working on it.
What is the differance of International 240 Utility and the McCormick-Deering 240?
Do you guys know of a web site with info on this.
Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving to all. (Even the green guys)

I am Retiring the end of the year after 38 years of flying and am going to slow up a bit. I have a choice locally of a Massey 135 or an IH 240 Util. Both seem to be early to mid sixties tractors in good shape the the price is within $200.00. Any thoughts on the differences (Weight,Reliability,Parts availability that could sway the decision would be appreciated.

I bought a IH 240 utility off ebay about a month ago and love it so far. From everything I have read on the website concerning the IH0-240 utility I get the impression that its a great little tractor for general purposes. The only negative I can say for mine is the 3-point hitch. It is a quick-type which is ok, but the lower arms are in a fixed triangle setup, in other words they will not move sideways which makes hooking up to implements a little more tedious. These tractors were only made for 3 or 4 years 1958 to around 62 I believe, so they are a bit rare. I have not been disappointed in my purchase at all. Hope this helps.

Re your voltage - look to see how many cells in the battery, or drop a meter across live to earth, look at a bulb rating..... as it could have been changed - voltage and polarity - check it out yourself.
Further, if you are inexperienced with these things as your post suggests, get the appropriate manuals and study them before getting yourself into trouble.

'International' 240 has a lower profile and shorter wheelbase than the 'Farmall' 240. Hence the terms 'utility' tractor and 'row crop' tractor.

I own a IH-240 Utility, nice tractor, but no "Live" PTO on these, they are 6 volt, unless some one changed it out, Mine has a loader on it, with the control on the right side of the steering wheel right on the tractor, and not bad steering it with a load in the bucket, I don't have power steering, and don't need it. I am looking for a rear wheel weight though if you know of any around, the weight has a cast number on it (351374-R1) give me a holler....

Did you mean to say it has live PTO or live hydraulics??? It should have the hydraulics but don't think they came out with live PTO on the 240 (I may be wrong but that's my recollection). Congrats on your find. Good tractor! BobG in VA

Hp is around 31. As far as a site your here just look around and ask questions. Also check out the serial number list at the side, it will tell you the year of your 240. My guess would be that it was 6 volt but thats just a guess
