What size bales does this baler make? I know it is variable chamber, so I am assuming it can make just about any height bale. Are they good, dense bales? I was just thinking about one for baling bluegrass for horse bedding, maybe about 500 bales a year at most. Right now we have an M&W 4500 (4x5 fixed chamber). It is alright, but the bales are not that tight and you can't make shorter bales, which limits how high we can stack them in a shed. Is there anything I should know about the 855? Is $3500 a good deal for one that looks to be in good shape? Also, will this baler bale silage type material (such as loose bales of wet horse manuar? Not guarenteeing doing this since it has done its toll on our M&W. I just like the chain drives, they seem they would be a little more reliable than belts and stronger and also, they are less expensive and I don't need to worry about leaf loss either. Also, Will a 763 bobcat handle one of these baler's bales? The 763 can safely lift about 1500lbs I think. Thanks.

they make 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 bales rated for 1700# bale they come with elec, manual or hyd twine tie i use mine for silage and dry bales. doesnt make bales nearly as tight as belts but does an ok job. check the chains aint cheap. being 5 1/2 wide you have a lot of weight out there your 763 may be able to handle them

Can't really help as far as that baler but I use a NH 850 which is close and its been very good. But if that 855 does bales like my 850 the bobcat will end up on its nose. My 850 packs them in good and tight and around 2000-2500lbs. I know a place here in missouri that has a couple 850s for $500 pick.

Thanks for the help old. There is an 855 and an 853 that are both within about 30 minutes of us. We have an M&W and it is just getting to be a problem with electronics and stuff and it needs some work done too. We have had to replace 1 of the main drive shafts from clogs. Will the 855 or 853 handle making loose horse manuar bales? Would only be making them about 4ft tall or so. Thanks again.

> handle making loose horse manuar bales?

What, exactly, is a loose horse manure bale? I only know cattle, and can't imagine it is what I am thinking?

It is round bales of horse manuar. It is pretty wet and heavy, so that is why belt balers aren't quite the best option. We bale it for some local cattle farmers. It helps us get rid of our manuar so we don't have that much to spread. We mostly do it just during the winter when there is a need for cattle hay. We will give it to who ever will bring a trailer to our muck pit when we can load them up. They get good cattle hay and we get rid of our manuar. Cattle seem to like the bales. When we had cattle, we used to spread our manuar in cattle fields and they would come right behing you and eat the grass.

Can't say for sure I have never tried that with my 850 but I do bale some ruff stuff with it. I have a lot of crown vech and that is a night mare to bale and the old 850 just does it very good with only a clog once in a while if the rows are to big. Had this for about 5 years now and have only had to replace one part which was an idler sprocket and broke a shear bolt one but other then keeping it oiled it has done just great. When I got it I was told my Oliver 77 would pull it but found out fast ya it would but ever thing had to be just right or all I got was a 3 or 4 foot bale. Then I tried a Farmall 450 and got the same thing. Sold the 450 and picked up an Oliver Super 88 and it just plays with the baler. The 850 is I go to slow like to make a bale that I can't pick up with my ford 801 with loader, and thats with fluid in the tires and a back blade on with 6-85lbs suit case weights on the blade. And even when I started useing 2 or 3rd gear they are still around 2000lbs.

I forgot to ask too, does it have a net tie or string tie? Net would not be economical for bedding, so is there a way to use string if it has a net tie? Thanks again
