I am looking at purchasing a MM Gvi tractor that has water in the sump. I relise that this is probably just a blown head gasket but is it possible for the motor to let water in from the cylinder liners. Im not sure if they have a wet or dry liner. Also, what would be a fair price for the tractor? The vendor will take AU$3000. Any help would be much appreciated.

Just to add to this, Is it a big job to replace the seal in the water pump. You would have to pull the timing cover off and the pump would be on the inside? (ive never struck this type of water pump before- most tractors have belt drivin pumps.) Thanks

I have several Molines .Like Bob said water pump seals most likely, worse case cracked head or gasketts or one of the blocks.

GVI has NO sleeves.

Common source of coolant in the oil is a failed seal on the gear-driven water pump, combined with a clogged-with-dirt "weep hole".

Now i am now expert on the MM's but did build one for pullen and they do not have sleeves and i would have to go with a cracked head or block as they are prone to this and the 3000 grand he wants for it is about 2500 to much . The one that we did for a buddy he bought the tractor off a guy in Iowa along with three other tractors and with trucking he did not have 3500 in the load and his Gv ran but had a miss it was a cracked cylinder .

I believe the GVI is parent bore as a lot of Minnie-Moes were, but maybe a Moline fan can correct me on that. Thus, if it is parent bore it is unlikely that it would have cylinder pitting since the parent bore cylinders are a lot stiffer. I had cylinder pittng, in a wet sleeve Deere and it required an inframe. Water in oil can also come from a leaky oil cooler or a crack in the cylinder bore or block (such as if the block was allowed to freeze with just water in the jacket. Also it might just be condensation, if it was started and stopped a lot and not run long enough to get it to operating temp and boil off any condensation. You can tell to look at it is it is water versus antifreeze. Head gasket is probably the best bet. I dont know if the AU$ compares with the US$ but 3000 US$ is too much for a GVI that has water in the sump for any cause other than condensation.
