Well I most have done something wrong. After I put the silicone sealer on the bolts/screws and then let it sit for about 4 hours, plus put withe paint on all paces that can move so I can see it it works loose. I went out and shoot it, I shoot it at 25 yards since 25 yards also zeros it to 100 yards. Well any how I shoot 7 round and all 7 where with in 3 inch circle. I didn't even have to readjust the scope any. Thanks guys for all the info.

No offense, old, but 3 inches at 25 yards is 12 inches at 100 yards. Even standing, I have no problem keeping my shots in a 12 inch circle shooting my M-14, and it has iron sights. I have two scoped Model 70 Winchesters that will consistently shoot inside a half inch circle off the bench.

If your rifle can't group better than 12 minutes of angle off the bench, something is wrong with the rifle, scope, mounts, ammo or shooter.

That wasn't off a bench it was off my but siting on the ground with my elbow on my knee. Ya if I had been useing sand bags etc I would also think some thing was wrong but with me just sitting I figured that wasn't to bad. I may try 50 yars tomorrow but it will be the same thing as far as me just sitting on the ground. 4 out of 7 shots made a 1 inch box with each shot being a corner of the box.

Old, you will not have the same impact point at 50 yds. At 25 yds bullet is rising and at 100 yds it is going down and crosses the same axis as at 25 yds. Bullet should impact high at 50 yds. All trajectories travel in a parabolic arc.

Believe it or not I knew that. I reload my own target ammo but the last few years I haven't had any time for target shooting.

SKS hunting bullets? Are you using .308 bullets or .310 bullets? Couple articles somewhere about using 130 grain .311+ originally for 303 british and 7.65 Mauser in Chinese type 56 SKS. 100 yard 6 inch pattern for Federal(?) ammo recommended for Ruger was reduced to about 3-4 inches. Midway ammo was noted as .310 bullet and had about 25% smaller patterns. Some russian soft point around, clerk in store said they tested it with Yugo 59/66 and got a bit smaller pattern than Norinco. Noted that some Russian hard ball M43 got about 10 inch pattern 100 yards. Cheap practice stuff though.

I don't remember what I was useing. I think its 310 but it might be 311. I use sirra bullets since the plant is onlt 70 miles from where I live. In my big russuan gun I use a 174 grain, boattail hollow point match grade bullet and get good patterns with it. But I don't use it for hunting and havn't even shot it in 5 plus years because of the recoil. Some how the reciol and my bad back don't mix well.

Sister likes SKS for some same reasons- light recoil. Also short stock fits her better than full size, harder recoiling mauser or no3 enfield, no bolt to turn, big safety lever by trigger. Niece learning to shoot it also. RN.

Aslo the fact that its a semi auto matic it make for easy follow up shots and is good for about 150 yards. Also makes a good round for deer and where I live if you have a shot of more then 150 yards your lucky.

Old, sounds like me, started reloading in the 60's. Did a lot of shooting up untill last year. Couple of friends and I usually go to south eastern OR and shoot what is known a Belding ground squirrels (they look just like prairie dogs but a lot smaller). Want to make it to N eastern Montana for a praire dog shoot next summer. I am suppose to head out next week for Elk hunting....Good luck on your deer hunting.

Any more I think that it is a 50/50 thing. Either the gun is off or I'm off, well now that the scope problem is fixed I need to figure out how to fix my problem of not being able to hold a gun like I did 35 years ago. I hate getting older and haveing back, leg and shoulder problems. Oh well I guess I need to go back to my 3 shot rule. Every time I shot at a deer pull the trigger 3 times. Every time I do that I seem to be able to bring a deer home. If I onlt pull it once all I get is a white flag waveing good bye. LOL

All I can say , the SKS I shot some 15 years ago shot around a 2" group at 100 yds.

Not saying you don"t know how to shot, because I"m not. But at 25 yards, anything over an inch with that caliber, I would start thinking the scope itself. With age, some scopes sooner than later, the cross hairs go bad. Move around and/or can"t be adjusted. Just a thought. Happy hunting. Craig

Well that was also with me just sitting on the ground and useing my knees for a rest. So if figure the 3 inches was me not the gun.

Well yes if I had been useing a rest, but I wasn't I just sat on the ground and used my knee for a rest so the 3 inches was me probably not the gun.
