Friend was talking to the game warden in the local Wally World the other day. After commenting that they were about to get real busy with the opening of gun season, the officer replied that they have been real busy for about two weeks leading up to modern gun season. Seems they had a complaint from a farmer about spotlighters so the game wardens set up their motorized decoy and sat in the woods waiting. Not too long later, a shiney new truck pulled up with a 200,000 gazillion candelpower light and spotted the decoy. They heard two shots from a high-powered rifle and then the guy gets out of his truck and starts walking up to the decoy. He reloads and shoots the decoy again, at which time the game wardens step out of the woods and nab the little beggar. It was a young boy driving his daddy's truck. He had a high powered rifle, a four wheeler in the bed and a 12 point rack and head without the rest of the body. If anyone is interested, the state of Kentucky now has a shiny new truck, a high-powered rifle, a four wheeler and other parts and pieces for auction, probably cheap. The kid is going to spend more than a little time in the hokie for his antics, then he gets to go home and explain to daddy what happened to the truck. Not all stories have a sad ending!

not only the deer hunters in reply to BobinKY, 11-15-2005 09:49:05
A pair of partridge/grouse hunters got dinged with $3600 in fines when they had over three times the allowed limit for the day. I would think that 5 each per day is enough, but they had 33 in the truck. The officer was lied to about their ID and how many they had in the truck. They got off easy - truck, trailer, ATV's, guns and trailer were confiscated only until the fines were paid. Greedy goofs.

Someone told me Conservation officer[game warden] is one of the most dangerous areas of law enforcment.Everyone they approach is already armed.A guy goes into the taxidermist here and has a big bucks head to be mounted.Another guy is hanging out there and asks" where did you get such a large buck at".The guy says" In the Boy Scout camp".The first guy says" oh really theres no hunting there and Im the game warden, your under arrest".

Here in Ks yesterday there was a farmer near Wichita that was stabbed in the face and belly because he stood up to some poachers. They haven't been caught yet that I know of. Kansas Wildlife and Pards are saying not to confront them but just to call poachers in.

Here in WI. the DNR can keep anything that was involved with the deer poaching, trucks, guns, four wheelers, cars. Then they have the fines which start at 1800.00 per deer.

I don't know what the law is in KY, but I doubt they can do anything but take you to see the judge. The judge may fine you what the truck and content is worth, which is doubtful also. anything above a 4-5 hundred dollar fine and it's time to remove someone from office.

Don't try poaching with a new vehicle..... You might get an education you can't afford. :) Many states allow confiscation of whatever you are using to commit the crime.

Farmer lost his combine on that deal.....

I was driving down our driveway a few years back and a game warden had set a mechanical decoy up on our driveway.

I was a little miffed because the decoy was positioned in such a way that another neighbors house was behind it.

We have right of way over that neighbor so I didn't know if it was really my business since it was their property.

Anyway, my point is that poachers are idiots, but that warden didn't give me too much encouragement as to his intelligence.

I assume they have to get homeowner permission. That would be a nice thing to know.

I doubt they keep truck or 4 wheeler if they have a lien on them , they have to have a clear title to sell . This happens all the time when it goes to court here in IL

Clear title in Illinois? If the financer is experienced they require insurance that covers loss 'due to criminal acts' on the loan, they add the premium to the loan to cover drug and other seizures for less than best credit customers. State sales of siezed property can be a bit iffy, some auction companies require title insurance fee to cover themselves on sales after selling seized previously stolen cars, etc. This includes federal seizures. Takes some time to get all the paperwork straight. RN

RN usually if any vechicle has a lien on it around here they return it bacause they don't want to fight with the banks but they increase the fines although .

Bob,

That's good news. I wish more poachers would get caught.

I used to live in East Tennessee in the mountains. I now live in Middle Tennessee. East Tennessee is populated with a bunch of really mean rednecks. I once went to an auction on the court house steps for a couple of guns that had been confiscated. Both of the original owners were at the auction. Both of them were well-known for their violent tempers. Discretion being the better part of valor, I left the auction without bidding on the guns!

Good luck,

Tom in TN

"East Tennessee is populated with a bunch of really mean rednecks." I beg your most humble pardon, sir. I live in East Tennessee and I am one of the nicest guys around. If you don't believe it, ask me. I will be happy to tell you. LOL

Aloha, I know what you mean. A friend of mine bought a house and lot that was confiscated from a drug bust and auctioned off. A little while after, they poisoned his dogs and burned the house down.

Let'em have all they can shoot. Deer are pests around here. I wish I had all the soy beans they eat over the summer. They eat beans morning, noon and night, even bed down in them.

I am a confirmed Deer ACE have killed 5 by motor vehicle... 2 at once one time.

they have a hard time around here now. They lived in a huge (for around here) woods to our west. now that woods is a 80ft strip pit ... so they have moved over us hard.. they are thick.

and my family use to live in East Tenn. We were not tough enough to stay... tried to come back once and had to leave again.. LOL those people are good people just tough. :)

Well, I live in eastern Kentucky and those boys down Tennessee way ain't got nothin on the locals. And, it ain't so bad to learn to take of yourself and your own. The deer feed on private property all year long, but the state (write your's in) claims ownership. So, we feed them, God put them here, and then the State walks in with their hired gunslingers (Game Wardens/Fishcops..whatever name you choose) and declares the citizens have perpertrated some heinous crime for shooting their deer. If I feed them, I shoot them and if my neighbors feed them and ask me to, I shoot them there too. Nothing like working your backside off to watch a herd of free ranging deer eat their fill everyday..and night. I have lost 3 new cars to deer and the drivers door of my Dodge pickup is caved in because one of the knobheads ran into it..while I was going 50 mph. Then to make matters worse, come deer season, all the townies show up in their orange clown suits ready to ride down the fences, bring their 4 wheelers...none of them walk anymore..too lazy...they toss down their garbage, freeload for a week and then disappear again...until next year. I think it is a travesty of justice when the State claims ownership but doesn't keep their property off mine....but wants to use the long arm of the (their) Law to rob people of their goods and liberties over something like a deer or possum. Keeps plenty of folks in a job I suppose. I think after deer season all the righteous state employees of the Game department should go to every farm and rebuild fences, fix the tire ruts in the fields and bring a check for feed and pay for pasture usage by their property...all the wild game. The State is no different than the King's of old. They own it all and dictate to the rest of the people who can, when they can and how the can....shoot any of it, while still expecting the people to provide living quarters and feed for the critters. And, as far as I am concerned, using a decoy is entrapment, no different than posing as a hooker on a street corner. If they want to deter 'crime', don't provide an enticement. Afterall, it's against the law to bait 'their' game animals....should be against the law to bait people.GRRRRR R!
