I am looking for a chome stack for a tractor with a 90 degree bend on the top that has some muffling abilities. I like to look of the chrome stack on the tractors, but my ears hurt from the loud engine with the streight pipe. I dont have enough room for an under hood muffler and I hate having a huge muffler to look around on the hood. I talked to a big rig place that sells "stack pacs" but they are only aluminized not chrome and I doubt that paint will stick to the pipe. I thought about putting the stack pac in and putting a chrome pipe over it, but that could rattle or may not stay put. Any ideas where I can look for a muffler stack??

Thanks

I don't know what your budget is, but Crum Equipment can build exactly what you are looking for in stainless steel. He can do the curved top and I know he has even built mufflers exactly like the original JD oval units on the 4430/4440. Give him a call at 800-736-6432 to discuss your options and his prices. They aren't as cheap as chrome but will last a lifetime and the craftsmanship is the best.

Thanks 720 Deere I will give him a call tomorrow and see what he has to say. I am not opposed to spending a little money if I get what I want.

Thanks

If you have a cab on that big beast, bringing the stack up to one corner of the cab makes it easier to see around since most of the space is already occupied by the corner of the cab.

Several places sell kits to convert the stack on the earlier big JD's to the corner of the cab. One of those kits would probably adapt to your big Ollie.

Nope, no cab just a two post canopy so that really will not work. Also the way the charger is set up I really have to send the stack out the hood somewhere.

I know I can put normal mufflers on, but was hoping to find a chrome pipe with a muffer in it.

I had thought about maybe getting a chrome pipe and putting something in the pipe to break up the noise, like an auger or something, but I dont want it to rattle either.

Just brain storming, any thoughts???

The mufflers on my old Farmalls a basically a large diameter shell with a smaller diameter perforated tube inside. I would think maybe you could fabricate your own perforated tube by drilling a bunch of holes, attach that tube to the exhaust outlet, and then slip the chrome pipe down over it. I did this once on a motorcycle, it did make it noticeably quieter.

Now that is a good thought. I could get a 3.5 inch pipe that would fit the exhaust elbow and drill holes in the sides and maybe cap the end and drill a few holes in the end and then slide a 4.5 inch chrome pipe over that and weld the bottom shut somehow. Hmmmmm let me think about that some more, but I think you are on to something there.....

Thanks a bunch...

You might position a large flat washer in the end of the pipe, but I don't think you would want to completely cap it off.

Hi Shep,

Dumb me; I pulled into the shed the other day and snapped the muffler right off.

I went into the local tractor supply store here and they had all kinds of aftermarket replacements. A factory type muffler cost me $40, which I didn't think was too darned bad in this day and age.

Worth a try anyway,

Allan
