Never used a belt head, as you call it, but they are great if you have enough rowed beans or other (typically oil seed) crop to afford it. Went out of style as narrow rows for beans came in around here.

A true wheat head would be aweful for beans. You need a flex head to get beans, they grow so close to the ground, and a bat reel is not good, need the bean head with fingers.

I assume you are talking about the belt heads that look like a corn head. They work fine for beans in rows. Disadvantage is that is the only crop you can use it on so you need another head if you want to do drilled crops such as wheat. The grain head or as I call them grain platforms can be used on both wide or narrowed row corps.Just my opinion.

IaGary:
How about sunflowers and milo as long as it is in rows to match the head. I used a 453 on a 45 Deere on sun flowers several years ago.

You are right. Don't thing about those crops much here in Ia but you can use the row crop head with belts on those crops also.
