I was wondering if you guys have any ideas on how to weigh down the front end of a David Brown 990? I realize that trying to find original or replacement ballast weights and bracket for the front end of this thing would be impossible so I am open for suggestions. Tonight I tried to move one of the wife's round bales to her horse pasture with a 3pt bale fork but front end kept coming up on me. Was able to nurse the bale into the pasture but would pretty much rode a wheelie all the way in. This tractor has the power but lacks weight in the front to get the job done.

Thanks,
Rod

It may be easier than you think to find a set built for your 990. I had an 885 that came with a good rack of weights on the front. there are still plenty of 990s out there so chances are good that your local salvage yard would have a set . good luck!

You could load the front tires with chloride or antifreeze.

Yes Sir,

There is an old saying, "It takes weight to move weight".

Just be really careful with that little guy, 'cause as you have just found out, "The tail is waggin' your dog". :>)

fab some up, if your not metal savy go to your local weld shop and have them weld you some brackets up. try to find some weights from another tractor first so they can make the brackets to accomodate those weights. shouldnt be to big a job for them. and not real costly for you.
counter weights off of oil well pumps work good and usually can be bought for nothing, i bought all i wanted to load by hand for next to nothing and made brackets for one of our rear grader blades to keep it from hopping on the gravel road as much.
