When I saw this subject come up I almost fell out of my chair! My wife is in charge of the Utah State Fair. The fair has had several vintage tractors the last few years but it hasnt been like the shows at other fairs that we visit. I would like to ask if there are any Threshers that would travel or would be able to put us in contact with someone that would bring some of the old equipment and show or display it. They are working out the details in having a vintage tractor pull to go along with the truck pulls. We are open for suggestions and or help to organize something more than what they already have.

Oh yeah, We had the biggest ever crowd on hand for our corn picking demonstration Saturday. We never charge admission and a free meal helps too.

Do you have a pulling contest? Most shows without a pulling contest are dieing. Static displays are boring. People want see and hear the tractors in action. Doing something.

The show has to be visiter friendly and interesting. Our club Northern Michigan Flywheelers has had a steady increase in attendance for the eighteen years we have been doing a show.

It is always a good idea to get kids involved. Get them on the machines and get them hooked. Seems like the popular shows have quilts and crafts for the ladies too. Wanna keep that up wind from the steamers though.

You also need to work with the newspapers to get advance stories published. I know a lot of newspapers don't get excited about anytype of old farming shows, yet by getting hold of the right person works out good. You also need to have pictures of what you are talking about. After all the majority of people come out from the city now days and many don't even know what threshing, or plowing, or what ever days are. Dick in the Finger Lake Region of NYS.

Dick, I would like to find a show where I could see a Westinghouse thresher. My dad had one and I rememmber helping use it. It was all wood and had a raddle type straw carrier. The grain came out a spout at the bottom, was cought in a washtub and scooped into bags. Dad set it up near the barn with the carrier dropping the straw into a Dellinger ensilage cutter which in turn blew the chopped straw into the mow.We must have borrowed a tractor because we only had one, a JD GP. It is a wonder the whole thing didn't blow sky high with all the dust. I once saw a Westinghouse in a private museum (barn) just South of Alfred Station, New York

Hi Ed, they usually have a Westinghouse at the Rudin Old Farm Days show just outside of Owego, NY. This show is held the Saturday and Sunday before Labor Day. It is basically a harvest show and lots of tractors. Not many are super shiny, most of working tractors from around the territory. It is co-sponsered by the TOYS (tractors of yesterdays) and the Rudin family. I do know of a Westinghouse seperator located near Cameron also. Dick in the cold Finger Lake Region of NYS.
