Always set a date. Whether or not you elect to require a deposit, set a delivery date. Last March I found a pair of wheels for my F12 up in IN. I told the seller that I would not be able to pick them up until sometime around the first week of July. I offered to pay the full price up front, he told me that wasn't necessary because he was confident he would be able to sell them to someone else if I flaked off. I told him I just wanted to make sure they would be there in July. I showed up June 30, got my wheels and a few other misc. parts. The key here is we communicated, we both stuck to our plan and we were both satisfied witht the outcome.

Incidentally, if you require a deposit, provide the buyer a written receipt stipulating that the deposit is non-refundable. Keep a copy for yourself. I've done this a few times when selling cars over the years, you'll find it sorts out the serious buyers really quickly.

"Speculators" like to get a fix on equipment, hoping they can find a buyer, so they can come get it, & sell at a profit... But at no risk of being stuck with it... I had some machines for sale... on a Thursday, a guy made me promise to hold them til Monday, & he would bring money, & pick them up, I said OK... That Sat, another guy showed up with cash, but I told him they were sold... The Monday buyer never showed up, so i called the Sat buyer back, & he said No!!!, & frankly, I cannot blame him... That has been 2 years, & I am still stuck with the machines... Money Talks, Bull walks...

Pretty much what I figured but I am a nice guy so I guess sometimes I let people run me over. Had the same type of thing happen with a ford 6000 engine but then the guy called and siad he would be up the next day and its gone now. So I guess some times it works to be nice but, I could use the $$ and to have it out of the way also. I have the roof done on my new building now. Even have the Case 800 in the shed now and also a Farmall cub but the cub does look sort of funny next to the 800. LOL

I think I have sold something to this same person. Stop waiting and relist. I have had this same problem. There are to many tire kickers and lookers in the world. I am cleaning up around here and have listed a lot of items over the last year. I never recive payment on 50% of what is sold. I wait a resonable length of time and relist it. I have even recived bad feedback because I sold an item to someone else after waiting 6 weeks for payment on an item. I will not wait that long for payment, but I've had several people that think I should. I've had people that took 4 weeks to come up with $20.00 for an item and then ask me to hold a $500.00 item until they get the money. The good buyers will get you the money within a couple of days, after that you know they are not going to pay.

Sure. Never promise anything ....first with the cash gets it. Unless, you get a deposit, non refundable, with a time limit on pick up and full payment.
