Looking at a Long 2460 dtc 4x4 with a loader, it has 468hrs. and their asking $13,500 for it. It will be used mainly with a 6ft. bushhog. Is this a good tractor and is it a fair price?

Larry, I think he's a little high for what they sell for around here. If he were to throw in a new 6' Landpride then I'd consider it. Also you didn't say what brand the loader is or if it is new or has been on the tractor since it was new. If the loader is new and it's an Allied it's worth about 3500. At that he's asking a new price for the tractor. You will also need added weight on the front if you use a heavy bush hog. Remember you can buy a new JD 5103 with a loader for around 14500.
As stated the Long doesn't have the resale value of the JD and they are clunkier but they are a good tractor and will dliver a lot of hp per gallon of diesel. I've had a 2510 for several years and as long as you do normal maintenance you will get good service from it. Mine has about 1500 hours on it and probably more than half it with a 6 ft busghog behind it the rest on the baler. Good luck whatever you decide.....

Bob thanks for your reply. The loader is from Long, it came on the tractor. The tractor is a 2000yr. & 468hrs. It looks like it's a very stout tractor, but when I talked to a Long Dealer he misunderstood me thought I said 2468hrs on it & said to check it over real good, thats not alot of hours. Any tractor site I've checked $13,500 isn't a bad price, but everyone says don't expect to sell it. I'm still looking. Thanks again.

My only question is I'm not sure why you would spend $13,500 on a Long tractor to pull a 6' bush hog. A $3,500 Ford 801 can pull it just as well at 1/4th the price.

I have a MF 135 I use right now and it does just fine, but it's starting to use some oil so I'm going to replace it. I have 45 acres, 30 is leased out for farming, the rest is horse pasture and woods. I want a tractor with a loader on it for occasional chores (horse manure, cleaning up fallen trees, branchs, snow, etc). There are very few tractors with loaders around where I live, this is one of them.

I have one of its older sisters, a 445. The 460 has 42hp. I have been well satisfied with mine. I would like to find a Long with a loader as well. I would find someone in your area that is knowledgeable about tractor prices. Longs do not have a high resale value compared to other makes of tractors. I really can't help you with price but may know someone who can. The 2460 series may be as much as 10-12 years old. I looked at a similar sized MF over the weekend ,4wd with a loader and 600 hours, asking 14,000.

I might be wrong I've called on alot of tractors, but I thought he said it was a 2000 year. I've been real pleased with my MF 135,so I'm also considering (4hrs. away) looking at a MF 255 with a loader,2200hrs. There's also a JD 1050 4x4 with a loader & 2700hrs. The thing that worries me is it's had $2000 of work done on the front end, has reciepts from a JD dealer. Never had a loader but I've heard 4x4 is nice.

I talked to a used tractor and implement dealer close to me this morning. He said that anyone buying a 4wd loader tractor was throwing his money away if they did not buy a Kubota. He says that the Kubota front end is the only one that will withstand the additional weight and use over time. Kubota makes their own axles where as other manufacturers buy theirs from suppliers. I don't know if he is right or wrong, but I knew before I stopped there that I would get a lecture from him. It seems to me that there way is the only right way and they really value the stuff they sell because it always seems high to me. I do know of a neighbor who has had the front end of his 4wd loader MF repaired twice. I talked to the fellow working on it back in the summer and he said it was not built heavy enough. He uses it mostly for round bales. I can't remember the model number. My brother bought a new MF 271 about 3-4 years ago. He has no problems so far, and he has moved some very stuff(mostly logs) in addition to round hay bales.
