Just did a complete engine rebuild on a 371 bobcat. 14 HP koler engine, the first time it fired up it sorue did sound nice. Now I get to run it 5 hours and then change the oil. I don't look forward to running it that long because with a bad back it sure does beat me up. Guess I'll just have to do it 30 minutes at a time. LOL

Hey Old congrats on a successful rebuild. Over the years Ive literally overhauled hundreds of engines both at home and in 11+ years of wrenchin at the Caterpillar house. I still get a thrill everytime one of "my" engines roars to life for the first time. Still go through the exciting moments right after start up checking the gauges, looking for leaks, and listening to her talk. Five hours is five hours no matter how long it takes you to get em on the clock. Enjoy it but dont baby it just run it like you would run it. This is the best way to break it in. See ya.

So far today I moved 3 buckets of dirt with it till it started to buck like a horse that had never been riden. Thats when my back said no more so I parked it. Then latter the guy that owns it came over and, sort of funny he couldn't get it to idle down. His problem was he was pushing it wide open instead of going the other way. Showed him what he was doing wrong and he said boy thats better. LOL

I helped my neighbor rebuild a 230 cu.in. chevy engine in a 63" SWB PU and we fired it off two weekends ago. Sure is fun to fire em off and run em in, set timing, adjust valves and set carb. Then sit backand let er purr, watch the temp and oil guages..

My 544 deisel is about the best sound in the world whenever she finally starts in any temp under 40 F. I get pretty worried till she roars. I guess all good ol girls are stubborn.

When I was 17, I rebuilt the neighbors 1960 Plymouth slant six.

Best project was placing a GM 350 in a 1990 Ford Ranger. It blew the four banger just 3 years from new- go figure! Swap was simple. The GM motor mounts with the GM frame mount support dropped on the Ford crossmember slick as ever. Welded in place after using a digital level. Used the Turbo 350 auto & Vega floor shifter. A '78 Chevy Nova drive shaft slipped in the trans & bolt right up to the Ford rear end to less than 1/4" of original placement at the trans side yoke.

Lots of fun here. The guys in big Dodge 360s, GM Suburbans & Ford pickups used to try to 'muscle me' on I-75 north. A hot GM 350 in a Ford Ranger will get to that open lane first!

I-75 north of Detroit, MI is well known for speedy travel up to northern MI. I remember back in the early 1970s seeing those huge Buick 225 Electras crusing at 85 MPH up north.
