I have a 1997 Dodge pickup with a 360 in it. The check engine light come on a while back and I would like to take care of the problem. I didn't want to spend time and money on the dealer mechanic, so I bought a OBD2 code reader. It worked fine and the code says "system to lean (bank 1)" Could someone tell me how to fix this? I work on vehicals and tractors all the time so I am not afraid to work on it, just need some advice. Thanks KPL

Remember "Cause and Effect !" Just because a code is set , it dosen't always mean that component is bad. O2 sensor codes can be caused by any number of things . Fuel pressure , plugged or dirty fuel rails, injectors , vac leaks, etc. I get tons of customers in my shop that have been to "The Zone " for free diagnoisis< codes read , parts bought , throwed at it in atempt to fix it > . By the time they come here, pay for a REAL diagnoisis , and get the problem solved , they could have saved a lot of $$ and headaches. I recommend biting the bullet, taking it in to a repuatable shop , and at least getting it diagnoised .

You have to remember guys and gals, this is coming from a guy that owns a shop. You would be surprised how many cars are fixed properly in "The Zone".

Before throwing money blindly, you need to see what that sensor is doing in comparison to bank 2.Also what fuel integrator/block learn is at.Those code readers are OK,but useless as far as diagnosing.Something as simple as a vacuum leak could be causing your problem.I would take it to a smaller reputable shop & have them check it.~brad

When I looked I couldn't see any sensors on either manifold. But I could be wrong.

I should have said lower exhaust. If this is the problem, unplug it and see if reads the same on the computer. If there is no change then that is not the problem. When I check things like that, I usually unplug stuff until the computer reads the same problem. Any problem that is different would mean that componet is working correctly. Good luck.

the exhaust 0-2 sensors are on the lead down pipes, then another set behind the catalytic converter, am thinking the 0-2 sensor for bank-1 is incorrect, or is telling that side to cut back on the fuel. have you cancelled the code? and tried driving it some more, to see if it returns? john in Nebraska
