I worked on one today, briefly! It was in imaculant condition! It has been repainted once but is still in great original condition. I'd say I would not mind owning one! And a Set of ear muffs!!!! They are loud.

I maintain and repair five Ford 5610's that we use for hiway mowing. They are setup with Tiger side decks and a Rhino 6' on the rear. These tractors take a beating and the wiring is pretty much all been redone because of add on warning beacons. I can put a clutch in one in about 5 hours now. The operators want to know when they are getting new tractors and I tell them "When you wear this one out". A good muffler will quiet them down a bit though.

5600 and 5610s are not the same as 5000 they were replacements for the 4000

4000 are 3 cyl, 5000,5600,5610 are 4 cyl either gas or diesel,5600 and 5610 are newer/replacement for 5000. In response to the original question- I think a 5000 ford is an excellent tractor, espescially the diesels and would"nt mind owning one. I ran one quite a bit a few years back and also own a 4000 Ford, which is also a good tractor.

6600 is replacment for the 5000 and i agree the 5000 is a very good tractor i know a few people who have had both and say 5000 was way better that 5600

The 5600 was most certainly the replacement for the 5000. A very brief overview of Ford Tractor Operations history will show that. The 6600 was a new model introduced to fill the gap between the 5600 and 7600. The model progression was from "thousand" series ('65-"75), "600/700" series ('76-'81), followed by the "10" series ('82-'91). That said, the 6600 shared most of the 5600's design with the exception of having slightly more power from the 256" engine. As far as I'm concerned, both the 4000 and 5000 were two of the very best tractors ever built by anyone, and that's easily supported by the vast numbers of them still in daily service. Not so much can be said for many others. The 5610 simply brought some more features and updates to a very solid tractor. One of the sorriest mistakes we ever made on our farm was trading our 5610. I still wish I had it back, and if I ever find it.....probably will. Still have, and always will have the 4000.

Have and would again in a second, maybe 5 seconds for a SOS.Unless severely neglected or abused, one of the best all purpose tractors in their class ever built.A tad lite in the rear but easily fixed by loading the rears.Strong, comfortable, reasonably nimble for their size, handles loader well, differential lock and strong brakes, indy PTO,multi class 3pt.
Funny thing, they still sell for what they did in the 60s/70s if you find a clean one.
And they're such a pretty color :)

We had one and made the mistake of trading it in on a 7600 Ford....Nothing but trouble. That old 5000 just kept on keeping on!!!

Why are Fords so loud anyway? I have an 801 diesel and it is loud. I once had a 640 gas and it was loud.

That would be IMMACULATE!

A friend of mine has the same problem... every tractor or vehicle he looks at is always IMACULANT.

Yes. I bought mine, a 1968, from a dealer in '04. It needed a pto brake, and he fixed it at no charge. Only other problem was a power steering leak. Had the cylinder repacked and it's OK now. I find it to be a little cold-blooded up here in NE, so I hook up the tank heater a couple of hours before using it. Basically, it's a haying tractor for me, but I also use it to spread manure from the horse barn as needed. I use it to run a NH 315 baler and a 489 Haybine in season. A very willing machine. My first diesel. I also have had a 1950 8N since 1985.

Yes. I have hade one for about 6 years now.
Mine has a M & W turbo on it so it is not that loud.

I am a "Red" man myself, but, I do have a couple of Fords. A 5000 diesel and an 8N. Both of them have served me well with very little, other than routine, maintence.

Nope I'd never have one. Years ago I did some work for a guy and we used a JD-A and a ford 5000. We where baling straw for the state. Well I was pulling a wagon loaded with bales and it hit a small ditch, well the 5000 would just spin. So we unhooked the 5000 and hooked up the A and it pulled the hay wagon in 2. Sort of funny seeing bales of straw going every where and the kids on the wagon also jumpimping and flying all over. Sort of told me a ford 5000 didn't have much when it counted

How many hours on it? The guy we farm with has two of them. The one I normally drive has 8900 hours on it.
