After I had the head worked on, the exhaust manifold studs seep engine oil. when I take them back out, what kind of sealer should be used on the threads?

This situation is typical in modern automotive engines. Non hardening sealent on the threads works best.

MLM,

I agree with Marlowe on this one; those studs should be deadheaded, so if you're getting fluid, something is deceiving you.

Either the heat is boiling away residue oil in the stud holes or else your diesel is running cold.

My 966D has a brand new engine and I've been using it to dig postholes. It's been slobberin' all over itself because it is just not workin' hard enough.

you did not say what type of tractor you have gas or diesel but there is no way oil can come out of the studs if it's a diesel it could be unburned diesel fuel because it's not getting up to working temp. give us a better idea what you have

its a 1978 Belarus. The top holes for the studs are drilled thought into the valve rocker compartment. the oil is seeping from the threads and not exhaust port.

My experience with metric threads is that they don't fit as tight as USS threads. Try a high temp Locktight on the threads and set the stud as tight as you can using double nuts or a stud remover/installer before putting the manifold on.
