The PTO shaft on my JD3020 continues to turn after the PTO is disengaged. Ops manual says nothing so I've ordered the tech manual. Could this be as simple as a linkage adjustment or should I expect to go deeper?

Thanks and May God Bless.

If its an older(before side console) syncrorange. the plunger that holds the lever in neutral is probably froze up from rust.Remove the kick panel and look where the pto lever comes through the dash.Free up the plunger with some penetrating oil.Its under the bottom of the lever. That will allow the lever to be pulled back to apply the brake. Its a very common thing on those tractors.

It could be an adjustment, a worn out PTO brake and/or apply pin, or the PTO clutch could be damaged, causing it to drag, and turn the PTO, even though the brake is "ON".

There are a number of differences in the PTO system, depending upon serial number, type of PTO,and whether your tractor is power-shift or not.
