THIS CAME FROM A FRIEND WHO WAS THERE

Real life story from Texas state Line

Here's a story for you..... ..... ..... ..as witnessed by my dad and mom. At the state line between TX and LA, there is a HUGE, brand new rest area. It's NICE. Okay, here's the story. Last Friday, my dad, who works for TxDOT, answered a call for TxDOT employees to go help with the refugees at this rest stop. So, after working ALL DAY Friday, he and three guys from his office left for the state line at I-20 and Waskom, TX. Working that evening was a state trooper, several sheriff's office deputies, Red Cross workers, TxDOT employees, and other local volunteers. These buses from New Orleans start pulling in. They let the people off to potty, eat, and rest. As they get off the bus, they are greeted and shown to the restrooms--where they pee all over the walls, floors, mirrors, etc. They did not even flush the toilets. Left the restrooms in a HORRIBLE mess. The local Burger King restaurant donated burgers and hotdogs and had people there cooking. Two black dudes walk over to see what's being cooked and one says to the other, "Man, I don't want none of that shit." Other volunteers are handing out bottles of water. The people take them, drink two or three drinks from the bottles, and throw them on the ground. My dad and his coworkers spend their time picking up trash and taking it to the very large and OBVIOUSLY placed trash cans. (They ended up hauling off two HUGE truck loads of trash from these people). He said WASTEFUL wasn't the word. Other volunteers had brought in snack items, such as chips, crackers, gum, small candy, etc. There were ladies there making snack bags for the people and handing them out.
These nasty, nasty people would take the bags, dig out what they wanted and throw the remainder on the ground. BRAND NEW FOOD ITEMS! Daddy said one deputy got so mad he yelled at them to "STOP WASTING THESE GOOD FOLKS MONEY BY THROWING THE FOOD AWAY. IF YOU DON'T WANT IT, THE LEAST YOU CAN DO IS RETURN IT TO THESE NICE LADIES!" He was hot! Daddy worked pretty much all night. He and my mom said the people were HORRIBLE. Nasty, filthy
mouthed, ungrateful. TxDOT had to pretty much scour the Rest Area and restrooms after they left. My dad went home and slept most of the day Saturday, got up sick and had to go back to bed. Remember, he'd been in the hospital not two weeks ago with chest pains (he's okay now, but still!). The man went to help these NASTY people after working ALL WEEK!!! So, after hearing this, I could really care less about a lot of them. Idiots and human debris. I am more resolved now to send MY donations to
theofficers and firefighters. Forget these IDIOTS! They are fools and it's mean, but Texas does not need any more of those! GRRRRR !!!!! !!!!! !! And to add one more thing.....

Why are all these people laying around on cots sleeping while other people are lining up by the thousands to SERVE THEM MEALS??? I am sorry but it's starting to tick me off that we're expected to serve these lazy assed "evacuees" indefinitely. Why the hell can't they line up themselves and help unload all these trucks and cars full of FREE stuff? Okay, let them have a day or two of rest but then put those folks to work taking care of themselves. Why the hell should any of them want to get a job when they can lay around all day in free air conditioned stadiums where they don't have to spend a dime and they have TV, entertainment and education and great food? Houstonians are going nuts being nice to these people, free hamburgers, free admission to the Children's' Museum and Museum of Natural Science, etc. Show your LA license and everything is free. Like I said, a short time is definitely warranted after all they have been through but it's my opinion that the worst thing we can do for them is to allow them to do nothing

A week after Hurricane Katrina was over and all the devastation was obvious, Channel 3 news in Charlotte, NC highlighted a family (husband, wife, and son) from New Orleans that was staying with relatives near the Charlotte area to "ride out the storm". The husband said that his plans, before the storm, were to return as soon as possible, but now there was nothing to go back to so he went to the local school board and enrolled his son into school that day and now he was standing infront of the camara advertising hisself for employment, highlighting his skills, and experience and asking for an opportunity to work and support his family. THIS ALL COMING FROM A MAN THAT LOST EVERYTHING!!
Right then I turned to my wife and said,"If the rest of those idiots in New Orleans would do the same thing this man is doing instead of blaming everyone else then we would'nt have half the problems we have in this world"

Kent, I see you've caught some grief about this post. I don't know if what you said is true. But the attitude fits for what happened at the New Orleans stadium- the news says it got trashed. And it obviously looked like most the people were just sitting around. I was wondering then- there SURELY could be something they could do- if nothing more than clean up after themselves.

You deserve the egg on your face. Whether you intended to or not, you deceived the readers of this forum into believing that you received this report from someone you knew. You posted this piece of hate literature as truth.

You have lost your credibility, sir.

Kent, we all get fooled by some crap once in a while. That's why we got to stand up for what's right. Your true friends ain't gonna agree with everything you say. It would not surprise me to find out it was some corrupt Gov't offical that started it in the first place. Anything they can do except the right thing to make this country better.?. Remember all the slander that goes on during election time, well truth is it never stops , the news just gets tired of reporting it after a candiate wins.

No problem Kent.

Most of the time people don't intentionally forward stuff if they know it isn't true. It is especially true on things that get your emotions going and my first time to read that I got pretty excited and upset about it. But after I checked snopes.com I got more upset that it wasn't true.

I'm the official watchdog for people in my office. If they get an email forwarded to them that sounds iffy, they ask me to check snopes.com before they forward it on to anyone else. (I think they should learn to check snopes.com themselves but that's another story)

Moral of the story is that you should check snopes.com on any of those kind of emails before forwarding them on to the people on your email list or posting them in a public forum.

Long live snopes.com! ;-)

The story is not true.

There are people who were there (the supervisor of the rest are in question) that have stated that the story is not true.

This is just a sad attempt by someone to spread around lies on the internet.

Please check out the link I provided.

The story that you posted is a fake.

It was debunked on snopes.com.

I posted a link to the truth. This is one of the worst things about the internet is that stuff like this gets spread around as the truth when it is just some story some sick person comes up with to try to pass off as the truth.

Snopes.com is a VERY good source to check out these type stories before you send around inflammatory stories that aren't even true.

Thanks for posting the truth, Nathan. It's really sad that some people stoop to such lies. It's really disgusting that anyone would attack these people who have lost everything.

KENT, you said that this is from "a friend who was there" ... sounds like you should take that friend to church with you ... perhaps the two of you can learn something from the word of Jesus Christ ... and how he felt about liars.

I'm not saying that Kent is knowingly passing on false information.

Most of these are emails that get forwarded around and no one really knows where they came from. They get it from a person that they know and so they think it is true.

People really need to check stories like that out before posting them or forwarding them though. Some of the dead give aways are that no names are mentioned. It is usually always a friend or a distant relative.

www.snopes.com debunks all the urban legends and is a great place to go and find out if the story you got forwarded is true or not.

Re: Actually in reply to Nathan in Texas, 10-07-2005 11:53:05
Snopes made no attempt to interview ANYONE that was actually at the stop and the Texas Dept of Transportation does not say that this did not occur. What they actually give in reply is a very politically correct responce designed in a mode known as "pausable deniability". Given the accounts of rape, murder and mayhem that MSM, the mayor and the governor of the state LA have given (granted not one of those sources has proven reliable) the rest stop account does appear to be quite "reasonable.

From SNOPES:

The Texas Department of Transportation appreciates you bringing this issue to our attention. We are aware this e-mail has been circulating through the Internet.

We have been unable to verify the assertions made by the author of the e-mail; however, we believe this viewpoint does not represent the experiences of the many TxDOT employees who have assisted Hurricane Katrina evacuees.

Moreover, the opinions expressed in the e-mail in no way reflect the views of the Texas Department of Transportation.

Thank you again for your concern.

Actually, Danny they DO interview someone who was there that day. It is Melissa Wilson, Supervisor
Texas Travel Information Center WHO WAS THERE and she said:

"I am the supervisor of the Texas Travel Information Center in Waskom, Texas, and was on duty most of the time that the evacuee buses were coming through. My experience with the evacuees was nothing like the account that is given below.

All of the evacuees that my staff and I came in contact with were very grateful for what we were doing and thanked us immensely. The situation in the rest rooms never occurred ... "

This is someone with a NAME who was THERE. Not an anon source from cyberspace.

I think that people are just looking for an excuse to turn their heads away from others who are in need. It's called compassion. Get some.

This may not be true and unfortunately a lot of this crap is coming from our own unregulated and irresponsible press who is willing to report anything for a good story despite the facts. I personally watched reports on CNN of vast murders, gang rapes, and beatings at the super dome just to find out later that it was all a lie. It turned out that the murder rate in N.O. was lower after the hurricane than before and none were reported at the super dome. I don"t think we should censor the press but we should hold them accountable when they report far fetched crap that only adds to the problem. As far as the few lazy dirtbags that do exist(we all know they do so don"t flame me!) why would they get off their butts to help themselves? Louisiana is a welfare state (governments words not mine)and those people have been "served" their whole lives. When you are born and raised expecting the government to give you all you need, then you grow to a point where you don"t understand the concept of self preservation. That"s why "permanent" welfare programs are a failure that gets passed from one lazy generation to the next. An old saying: "Give a man a fish and he has a meal, teach a man to fish and he can eat the rest of his life"! Instead of "hand out" programs we need "train and work" programs.

What do you expect from CNN, home of the "Tailwind Scandal", a completely fabricated lie to implicate and trash the military. Also the rumours that CNN was paying people to loot so as to obtain really sensationalist footage, are really believable given the reputation of CNN in using any means available to trash the military, this administration, and America.
