Got a e-mail yesterday.
It outlines things we have learned about or city from national TV since the storm hit.

1. The hurricane only hit welfare family's property.
2. New Orleans was devastated and no other city was affected by the hurricane.
3. Mississippi is reported to have a tree blown down.
4. The hurricane blew a limb off a tree in the yard of an Alabama resident.
6. When you are hungry after a hurricane steal a big screen TV; it is OK.
7. The hurricane did 23 billion dollars in improvements to New Orleans: now the city is welfare, looters and gang free and they are in your city.
8. Don't give thanks to the thousands that came to help rescue you, instead complain because the government hasn't given you a $2000 debit card yet.
9. Even though the government came and picked you up at your house; brought you to a shelter; provide water/ shelter/ transportation and food for you it is OK to complain that the red cross fed you hot dogs. 10. Only family members that got separated in the hurricane rescue efforts were the ones in the shelter at the Super Dome.
11. Ignore warnings to evacuate and the government will come get you and give you money for being stupid.
12.Every one in New Orleans should have flood insurance it only cost $1.00 a year.
13. No one warned the people of New Orleans that this was a bad storm and they should evacuate.
14. Oh, and it is all George Bush's fault.

Y'all watch some strange TV. Never did I see anything saying it's ok to loot, that only New Orleans was affected or that only welfare folks were affected or the rest of that diatribe.

John, Have to say I agree with your analysis. However I made my contribution through the Southern Baptist Association. I followed that up by taking vacation from work and spending 6 days in Slidell at 1st Baptist helping them clean and stack trash. Also helped unload many semi's of food, water, clothing and essentials. Also assisted in setting up and serving food and distributing supplies to local populace. Many have nothing left. Those that do have to go in and through out everything into the huge piles of trash lining streets and highways.Lake Pnchartrain emptied itself into their homes and businesses. Left an awful stinky, muddy mess. I'm glad I could provide what little help I could. Glad your and your family faired well. If you need anything contact me at crdj72@hotmail.com. If I can I will help in any way possible. Thanks and God Bless.

Bob; I know many people that have given their contribution just as you have BUT...
My hat is off to you to have been through what we have been through and still find time to help others.
I know East Slidell was on of the hardest places hit.

I know you can read between the lines and see who these comments are about and know it is not about you.

I did well through the storm with only minor damage to my house but the trauma is still hard.
I see my Mom's house in Metairie that will most likely have to be bull dozed down because of the mold and rot that has already set in. Even if the house can be saved it will be sold and they are moving. My sister will fix the roof on her house and sell out and move. They are even trying to get me to move. While my house is fine it goes a lot deeper.

I say this because I know there are many that feel the same way. I wonder if N.O. will ever be the same because of this. Many Many will never return; and some that do will not stay long.

For now we go on. Pray for guidance. Consult with our pastors and endure.

Any one live in the Sparta Tn. area. Sure looks good from where I am standing.

The Dallas Morning News made a big point on how some of these refugees are angry that they cannot find proper New Orleans style soul food in the places where they have been re-located. Because I empathize with them, I went out and bought some fried chicken at Popeye's

I'm in on the Popeye's!!

I saw on RFDTV last night they are collecting donations for the rural folks that had damage. Glad to see that. I agree with your analogy of the news. The N.O. welfare folks don't appreciate all those folks helping them.

The FEMA guys are bad because they won't agree with moving back in until the levee's are safe.

The best piece I heard was from the REV. Jesse Jackson was, and I paraphase, 'The storm was purposely aimed at the black folks.' Dubya has more power than I gave him credit.

Like the ridiculous story I saw the other day when a point was made to accuse the "White upper class" population of blowing the levees on purpose in order to drown the "black lower class" population.

How absurd. Just shows the ignorance of some people.

Whats really absurd is the fact that there are people who actually believe that crap.

My wife and I certainly noticed the same thing. We switched back and forth from CNN and FOX, and still couldn"t get info on the surrounding areas. The wife says she"ll never be able to thank you enough for checking on her brother. You are good people, John, and I hope things are looking up there. If there is anything we can do to help, let us know. ....Stan

Now THAT is the way it SHOULD be! People helping people. Not big business and big government telling struggling people across the country to "just send cash."

John,

This is why I try not to get too much news off of the TV. They will always go for the sensational picture rather than useful information. I get most of my news from the newspaper and NPR (aka National People's Radio). Although these outlets are far from perfect, at least they take the time to try explain what's going on, rather than repeatedly show some sensational picture that has little to do with the situation.

I remember from my days in North Carolina, anytime there was a hurricane, the networks would always report from Morehead City. Never mind if the hurricane hit north or south of Morehead, the "reporter on the scene" would be in Morehead. Why? Because at the time, Morehead City was the only city on the NC coast that you could reach via four-lane highway! It was too much trouble to go to Wilmington or Hatteras, even it that was where the hurricane actually hit.

Obviously Miss. and Alabama dealt with their problem so much better, but we dont here about that, how about the rest of La. all we here is how bad N.O. was screwed up and ofcourse we know who most of the national media blames for that. Just like that oily fairy tale, I knew a guy that had an oily tractor, blamed it on the tractor when all he had to do was replace a few gaskets. Had to get that tractor story in, it is the tracor talk forum.

I think what bothers me is that they are attempting to set policies that we will have to live by.

Harley, Need some of my products? I could bring a load of water saving suculents..... the thorns keep the livestock from eating them..... 'til they get grown then use a "pear burner" to toast the pads. West Texas beefs have thick tough mouths and love 'em....

Or make donations to the MMI fund. We were in Jakarta when the stunami hit. All the news came out of Jakarta and our friends in the US were just sure we had ended up in the middle of it.
