I poated this on JD board and it didn't go to good..I have a 4020 and the hydrolics on the loader are getting jumpy. The curl on the bucket won"t stay up.When digging and curling the bucket up ...it( bucket) wants to seep down.It will go all the way down if you don"t keep it up with the control.Lift seems to work good.Pump making a little noise but not bad.I guess I wanting someone to tell me it not serious...Can anyone give me some ideas.I am going to take off hoses on back and change them to see is it might be that....But other than that I"m lost..Help!!!

It sounds like your one of the joystick valves maybe leaking by. you might try moving the stick one way or the other when it starts leaking down. it maybe a resty place on the valve causing this. if this is the case you cn rebuild the valve body.

Running a message through the spell checker before posting often improves the replies.

B&D,I'm not too computer savvy. Can you tell me where spell check is on YTMag discussion pages? I already know where it is when I send an email but I haven't seen it here. Thanks,Tx Jim

It takes a pile of imagination to type a reply on "word" or "outlook express" on your computer. Run the spell checker, then cut and paste your post onto the ytmag "comment" box. You should see the spelling, typos and grammar messes I make before it’s somewhat cleaned up.

B&D,I don't have any scissors or Elmers glue!! Besides that I would not go to that much trouble because it has been proven that one doesn't have to spell 100% correctly to get point across! On your thread about ol' Shep getting his mind "altered" your spell check choked because I think your spelling of n___ surgeon is incorrect. Tx Jim

At least I did go to the bother of using a spell checker and cleaning up the message. Some short forms of course can cause confusion both to the reader and the spell checker. A posting with half decent spelling and grammar is going to be taken far more serious than something looking like it was from a public school student or a public school dropout. As for poor old Champ. It does look like a dose of pink ribbons for him/it. Perhaps a bulk roll of the pink ribbon and just keep tying another on when the previous ribbon gets removed? I suspect there was some kind of envy. The wife didn't like the fact he could lick some things. And that sometimes he was a wee bit happy to see her.

The problem with spell checkers is they aren't responsive to correct usage. I read an article in the paper concerning a antique plane with it's 'radio engine.'

I have a friend that is a high school English teacher. Her biggest pet peeve is kids that don"t proof read and only use a spell checker. They do wait for weight etc.

Today I took the hoses off and switched them around..It still drops when I curl it.So Does this mean that I have a bad cylinder? Another question. How do I tell which cylinder it is?
No visible leaks on either cylinder. This is a GB loader and it has the originals cylinder on it. I guess it time to wear out after 40 some years...

Sounds to me like the seals might be leaking on your tilt cylinders. Here is a simple way to test. Go to a hydraulic shop and get a plug the same size as the hoses on your tilt cylinder. Extend the tilt cylinder all the way out. Remove the hose from the rod end of the cylinder and plug the hose with the plug you bought. Place a bucket under the fitting on the cylinder. Start the tractor and try to extend the cylinder. Since it is already at the end of its travel it can't move. If a lot of oil comes out the port, then the seals are shot and the cylinder needs to be rebuilt or replaced. Hope this helps

John

idontno,
Neither do I but for my learning process and maybe yours. I'm not at all familiar with dual action systems. Are there any check valves involved? Either in the control box or the cylinders themselves?

idontno,if you want to check a cyl. for internal leakage on a JD loader, disconnect hose on rod end of cyl's,raise bucket and see if oil drips out of cyl.port as bucket tilts. Tx Jim

If the loader is that old, spring for two seal kits and repack both cylinders. They both have the same number of cycles, after all. If either cylinder needs more than a seal kit, you will find out when they are apart.
