I am reading the september/october 2005 "Oliver Heritage" magazine. In the magazine , I read an article on the Oliver model 35 , self propelled combine. It was manufactured from 1954 through 1959. Available was a two row corn head. It cuts and shreds the stalk , husks and shells the ear--all in one operation instead of three. You store only Clean shelled corn--not bulky ears with husks and silks.

Fall of 1930 is when Oliver announced a newly designed two row corn picker.

You are right. The chopper thing did not dawn on me until I posted. Typed before I thought.

Fox and Gehl both had two-row units at least as early as 1958

Do you know if they were PTO powered or if they had a power unit on them.

My neighbors had a 2 row gehl in the late 50's and pulled it with a 70 john deere and were always short of power. They blew the silage direct into trucks built from old army trucks from WW2 and decided to help the power shortage by putting a bumper on the back of the cutter and then pushed a little with the army trucks. If I recall right the trucks were 6 wheel drives. Amazingly it worked real good and then they bought a brand new 4010 in 61 and then did not push with the trucks any more.
